I'm going on my very first solo trip this coming October. :cool1: And even though the Food and Wine Festival will be going on, I think I may like to eat in a restaurant one evening.

I have all my favorites that I usually go to with the family, but I'm not sure which one I'd feel the most comfortable in.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I really like Kona Cafe for solo. They have little booths for 2 people which are against a wall so you are not out in the middle of the dinning room.

I also like the hotel bar next to it. I always stop for a drink and people end up talking to you.

I have eaten solo at

Kona
Le Cellier
Chefs de France
Prime time
Mama Melrose
Beaches N Cream
Donald's Charecter Breakfast
LTT - Lunch

All have been great

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll try Kona.

Good Question.

For those of you who go to character restaurants by yourself, how has it been? Is there anyone available to take your picture?

the CM are more than happy to take your pictures with the characters.

I like Le Cellier, Kona Cafe, Cape May Cafe, Boma, Concourse Steakhouse, Olivia's.

How about Biergarten,San Angel, Capt Jacks & H&V (Fantasmic) for solos??

If you are a person who talks easily to strangers, Biergarten would be a good choice. However, I'm not and had an unpleasant experience there May 2005. I was seated at a table with four men. A few minutes later the hostess seated three more men at the table. I was the only female. All of us were uncomfortable. I ate quickly and got the heck out of there. I like the Biergarten, but won't go back without someone being with me.

San Angel Inn, Cap't Jack's, and H&V I think would be fine for solos. In fact, other than Biergarten I've not been uncomfortable at any restaurant in WDW. Some of the best service I've received when I've been solo has been at Marrakesh, Rose & Crown, Le Cellier, Wolfgang Pucks, Turf Club, Chef de France, Mama Melrose, Artist Point, and Bongo's. They sometimes don't seem to know what to do with a solo and just keep checking to make sure you're OK.

I LOVE going to character meals solo. I thought it was "wierd" before I went, so it took me 8 solo trips to get up the courage to try one. Wow, what I'd missed! Watching the characters interact with everyone is so much fun, it's much better than reading a book or writing in a journal. And if you think people are looking at you, the solo at the character meal, sorry, they could care less. Everyone's so busy looking around for when they'll get a visit for the next character they don't notice you. As far as getting a picture, most characters are accompanied by a "handler" who'd be more than happy to take your picture. Of course, most characters have arrived at my table sans handler, so someone at a table around me has always been more than willing to take my picture.

As far as other resturaunts for a solo, I've loved Chefs de France (always asked for and gotten a window table), Sci-Fi, Rose and Crown, Coral Reef. I've also enjoyed California Grill, LTT, Spoodles, and Bomas. The only one I had a bad experience at was Teppenyaki. Being at communal table, you never know in advance who you'll be next to. Unfortunately, I was next to a teenaged girl who seemed to be allergic to middle-aged, female, school teachers. Any attempts I made to converse with her were met with single syllable, sullen answers. So it was a very long dinner for me.

I am going to be solo for 3 days of my trip in Oct. and I am so excited! :woohoo: Anyway, I haven't done this before but I have ADRs at Coral Reef and Sci Fi... my reasoning is that atleast I will have something to look at since I won't have anyone to talk to. (And this is fine with me, I would rather be by myself than make small talk sometimes!)

A lot of solos like a communal table or sitting at the bar, but I really prefer my own table. I haven't worked up to doing a charecter meal by myself, but pretty much anything else goes. Next trip I'm planning on Le Cellier, LTT (for lunch) Boma, Kona and Brown Derby as well as Tea at GF

I am not the shy type and can usually strike up a conversation with anyone, so I will probably be fine!!

I went to H&V on the Fantasmic package and my waitress was great. When I was leaving she even gave me a cup of soda with a lid for the road.

My favorite place to eat was Narcoosee's. The view is so nice and the food is so wonderful, if you want to splurge, you can't go wrong with that place.

I have no trouble talking to strangers, but as Simba'sMom pointed out, you never know who you'll have to sit with at communal table places and I'd rather choose the strangers I talk to then be forced to be with strangers that might not find me their cup of tea or visa versa, so I stay away from those places.

As I'm in the planning stages of my first solo trip, what a great thread! I figured I'd be eating out of the food court for a week as a grab-n-go! Nice to know that I'll be able to eat elsewhere too!

I would skip the Fantasmic dinner package as a solo.
I have found as a solo it is very easy to get a great seat at Fantasmic 15 minutes before the show.
Nobody moves all the way down or to the center of the rows. I choose a section in the center and start walking down, there is alway pleanty of space between families. I nicely ask if anyone is sitting in the empty space and have a seat. I never ask anyone to move over, if people are on the isle I just slide by them.

People like to leave a lot of space between families at Fantasmic, there is laway plenty of space for a solo.

WOW I really have so many options!

I'm actually in WDW right now!! DH and I arrived Saturday and we're here for a wonderful week. I'm checking all the restaurants out to see if I see any "solo" diners. :thumbsup2

The reason I did the Fantasmic dinner package (at H&V) was because I didn't want to be standing on that line to get in the show for an incredible amount of time (and I've seen them start lining up 2 hours ahead of time). It was nice to eat, go on a few rides, and then just go the back way to my seat with no lines and no waiting involved at all. Once inside, you can look for closer seats anyway.

englishrose I ate at birgarten as a solo. I did not like sitting with strangers. I am going to the coral reef this trip as a solo.

I think that I'm going to try the Coral Reef and Kona when I'm "solo" in October. I've eaten at the Kona Cafe in the past and really enjoyed the meal. The Coral Reef will be a new experience which I'm really looking forward to. Which reminds me; I should make my PS now! :thumbsup2

Let us know how you make out with the ADRs. I tried for Coral Reef on 2 different dates in December a few weeks ago. They were already booked for dinner, so I ended up taking a lunch.
