We used to go to WL, but with 3 kids older than 3yo (DD-8yo, DD-5yo and DD-3yo), it is not an option anymore. We are early riser that like to rope drop in the morning, relax by the pool mid-afternoon, than go back to the park in the evening. We also plan to do 1 or 2 resort days. What is your favorite resort for a family of 5?

The monorail resorts—contemporary, poly and grand Floridian have the largest rooms and generally have two queens and a twin-sized day bed. I don’t know much about dvc, but some of the 1-bedroom configurations might work for you too if you rather go in the dvc direction vs. traditional hotel room.
Based on your family size and how you’d like to plan your days out, I’d say you can’t beat one of the monorail resorts for their location, transportation options and room size.

Beach/Yacht club- can walk to Epcot or walk/boat/skyline to Studios. Will have to take traditional modes to AK/MK. We also LOVE the pool and have done many resort only stays there as well.

Monorail resorts are great if MK is main draw.

Before purchasing DVC, we used to stay at POR. It was the only moderate that allowed 5. (no Art of Animation then). When they were a little older (older than yours), room seemed to be shrinking lol. We stayed at the Embassy Suites. This was the year we finally looked into and bought DVC.

You now have Art of Animation suites. DVC is the other option - a studio - which is a little bigger than the POR room or a 1 Bedroom at one of the DVC resorts.

I would see how much room/space/sq. footage you are comfortable with, price all three options and see which one works for you.

Good luck!

Our family of 5 has a split stay, as we go for less, but longer trips.
The first part we always go value, in order to go deluxe the 2nd part.
This trip will be AoA lion king suite the first week, followed by the larger deluxe size room at BWI the 2nd week.
