Leaving in two days and I'm starting to pack!! :cool1:

I'm worried about getting blisters. We are bringing bandaids and bacetracin, but what's the best thing to bring in case I get a blister?

Please reply ASAP. Thanks!:goodvibes

Prevention is better than cure: a good fitting pair of worn-in shoes is essential for WDW, and a little Vaseline or talcum powder can help reduce friction making getting them less likely.

Moleskin.

If I feel like I might get a blister, I will put a bandaid on the spot for prevention.

FYI - you can get bandaids, advil, etc free at the first aid stations in the parks.

In past trips I always got blisters on my pinky toes, regardless of bandaids, moleskin, anything.

I finally found out (through the DIS!!) about Body Glide (couldn't find locally but read they are at ReI and Dick's Sporting Goods) and Bandaid Blister Block (found in CVS).

Zero blisters. It is a miracle stick I tell ya! :thumbsup2

Have a great trip!!

Thanks guys! Not sure I have time to stop at REI for Body Glide, but the Bandaid Blister Block (found in CVS) sounds great!:thumbsup2

Now, what is moleskin and what do you do with it? Is it really skin from a mole?

You find moleskin w/ the other foot care stuff (like Dr Scholl's). It is actually made of some kind of cloth (not real skin). It comes in squares--you will need to cut it w/ scissors.

Thank you-these replies are a wealth of knowledge:thumbsup2

I tend to get blisters from walking easily so I'd like to be prepared this time.

About the Vaseline and baby powder-do I just rub one of these on my entire foot before I put my shoes on? Do I bring them to the park and re-apply again later?

I'm bringing smart shoes: one pair of Crocs (I was told these are best), one pair of Teva sandals w/a back strap, and a pair of Reef flip flops (very comfy).

If you cant find the body glide, you may want to pack an extra stick of gel type antiperspirent. I used right guard sport on my feet every morning last time we went and it worked just as well as body glide at a fraction of the cost

I agree that prevention is the best bet. I know the parts of my feet where I'm likely to get blisters, and I usually apply adhesive tape to those parts of my feet right from the beginning to prevent any problems. If I feel a hotspot starting in an unusual spot (one I haven't prepared) I always carry a couple bandaids with me. I've found that tearing off the adhesive tab of the bandaid and putting it on the hotspot before a blister works as well as the tape. If the blister has already formed, then I apply the whole bandaid.

The biggest thing is wearing shoes that are well broken in, and shoes you would wear for a lot of walking at home. Just because you have had a pair of shoes for a while, if you have worn them sitting at a desk and not for extended walking, they probably won't be your best choice. I also bring a spare pair of shoes that fit differently, so if one pair causes a problem, I can switch out.

take new feet, when one set get tired or blistered, change to the other feet you carried in your back pack.

I bought a pair of ECCO's before my trip last year, and they were hands down the most comfortable (and most expensive) sandles I've ever had in my life. They were so good, I'm buying my DBF a pair before we go this year. They have 3 separate padded straps (one behind the heel, one over the toe area, and one over the top of the foot) that are all adjustable with velcro, so you can adjust them if your feet swell. I didn't get one blister, sore, rednss, nothing. Just comfy feet!

So you put gel like stuff on your feet, then your socks and shoes? it sounds squishy... :lmao: :scared1: :confused3

I bring fresh socks and change them out half way through the day. It's amazing how just a simple changing of the socks refreshes the feet. I also do a foot check on the kids and any red spots get bandaides.

I agree with the poster above. Wear CROCS! I wore my broken in tennis shoes the first night and had two blisters within two hours. I switched to my crocs the next morning and wore the same pair of crocs the rest of the time on our last trip and had no problems.

I also wear Ecco's! I started with Ecco sandals, then added shoes & boots! They are expensive, but SO WORTH IT! I've worn them walking through Paris and London, Disney, everywhere - they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn, and I won't wear any other shoes anymore! My DH winces every time I say I need new shoes, because they are really expensive, but since my feet don't hurt anymore, even with walking miles and miles through Europe, I don't care! Ecco's!!!!

I am not an expert on much on these boards (which is why I browse way more than post) but I do run 40+ miles per week and race several times a year so I get a ton of blisters. The best prevention method is too apply vasoline on your feet before you head out for the day. That will probably be a bit tougher if you aren't wearing socks! And if you already have blisters defintely apply vasoline to them asap. Works miracles and very cheap!

Wear liner socks. You can get thin liner socks at most sporting goods stores. They'll be next to the hiking socks.

Here's how the magic works: The liner socks are synthetic and they wick moisture away from your skin. The liner socks stick to your feet. Your regular sock sticks to your shoe. The two socks slide a little against each other. Since your skin isn't rubbing against your regular sock or shoe, you won't get any blisters. :thumbsup2 (Some socks claim to work the same magic with multiple layers, but, nothing is as good as a second sock.)

Ask any boy scout who's been on a fifty mile backpack trip :scared1: , and he'll back me up. ::yes::
