Best Recommendation for Hotel Close to Convention Center

I'm thinking of surprising my dh with a trip to orlando in August for the Star Wars Convention. As we will be going to disney in December, we don't need to go to disney this trip. I would like a nice, but not expensive hotel, with nice rooms and a nice pool that is close to the convention center. If I could get away with not renting a car, that would be great, but it would need to be a safe walk to the convention center as we will have our 2 year old with us. Thanks!

Vista Cay is a great resort that is 3/4 mile from the Convention Center. Sometimes for larger conventions, they will have shuttles to take you over, would have to check with convention as to whether they stop at Universal Blvd. outside of the resort or the Club House at Vista Cay.

Sites that have these condos and townhomes are www.vistacayrent.com (through owners). Also find them on Home Away and VRBO, www.homeaway.com or www.vrbo.com.

It is the only short-term rental in Orange County, and happens to be right next to the Convention Center.

There is a Publix grocery store within walking distance (right next door), less than 1/4 mile, a Chinese Restaurant, and a NYPD Pizza.

If you didn't want to get a car, taxis are easy to get, reasonable to go down to International Drive (about 1 mile away). Some even get a taxi over to the Convention Center for a few dollars rather than have a car.

Universal is 3-4 miles away--Harry Potter will be coming, hopefully, late May!

However, depending on what you are going to do, you may want to get a car.

There's lots of hotels right there at the Convention Center, but you won't have the room of a condo/townhome, plus the 10,000 sq. ft. Clubhouse (similar to Windsor Hills), great pool, overlooking beautifully landscaped lake.

Check out the hotels on Universal Blvd. They're close and you can get some really good rates. There's a Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn and La Quinta right there. The La Quinta has continental breakfast, microwave and fridge in the room for great rates. Last time I checked for Celebration's dates the prices were a steal. Around $65. Check into the I-Drive Trolly. They have stops all up and down that area and they do have a stop for the convention center. We can't go to Celebration though b/c I have to work due to a leave moratorium at that time.
