Planning an October trip, four nights, need three rooms, and want to stay at HRH club. Right now (yea, I know it's way too early to tell) the Stay More rate is showing as $295/night, plus taxes, same rate on AAA.

I was wondering if anyone would tell me what they paid this past October at HRH club, and what discount was used (AP, AAA, pin #, whatever)? I have AAA, am thinking of an AP if I can book more than one room with it - trying to work all the angles.

As I said, it's too early to start nailing things down with any certainty, but I'd like to get some idea of the final cost.

An FYI: the Chase Southwest card 50,000 point bonus program is a winner for us. Total RT airfare (based on current fares) for nine, Pittsburgh to MCO, including the $69.95 annual card fee, will run us about $1340, as both my DW and I got the card deal. That includes Early Bird for all tickets. That is, of course, unless fares go nuts between now and when we can book.

The date/rate thread has a lot of good info, but I managed to answer my question by going to the hotel website and looking up rates in January for the room, first with AP, then without to make sure the AP rates were in effect. I then went onto AAA and got rates for the same date range, same room.

Turns out the AP and AAA rates are about the same for the time period I checked, with an odd difference: AAA showed a bit higher "starting at" nightly rate, but the total for four nights was slightly less for the stay because the weekend nightly rate was somewhat lower than the AP rate.

I am hoping the AP and AAA rates tend to mirror each other in other time periods. I'll book AAA right after the first of the year then wait for the rates to drop.

I've been kicking around getting an AP, but in the end I think the ancillary savings it provides (including park ticket discounts for five others in our group) ends up in a break even situation.

In my experience the AP rates are generally significantly lower but you do need to watch as they can be different at different times.

I guess that's the chance I'd have to take - pay for an AP and hope the rate drops below AAA. Given that we're going during HHH I think I'd rather book through AAA so we get the rooms we want.

If I were going back another time within the year - doubtful - I'd get the AP and book with that.

Don't they request at least one AP per room for the discounted rate?

Thought I read that somewhere.

You don't have to have the AP to book the AP rate. As long as the AAA rate is able to be canceled (and if so, keep good track of the exact last date that it can be canceled), you can just keep your eyes on the AP rates. If one comes up that's better than what you have (and that makes up for the cost difference between ticket and AP), book it, cancel the AAA rate, and get the AP.

Maybe. The advice I got is to call the hotel directly if booking an AP reservation - they will let you know if you can book more than one room with the AP. Sounds like a deal that depends on who you talk to. I need three rooms, and I can book all three at AAA rates. I may or may not be able to book more than one room with AP, that's when it can get complicated.

I'm gonna sit down right after the holidays, get out my slide rule, and start calculating all the possibilities.
