Best Quick-Service Restaurants for a Vegan?

I'm heading down at the beginning of November to visit my sons, who are working in the Canada Pavilion. Because this is short notice, and to save money, I'm thinking I won't make ADRs but will eat mostly at counter service places. The challenge: I'm vegan, and also try to avoid foods like pasta, white bread, etc. I like salads but prefer dark greens to iceberg lettuce.

So - any recommendations?

Teresa

Outpost @ MK has a vegan flatbread
Veggie burger @ Pecos Bill's & Cosmic Ray's
Morocco & Sunshine Seasons @ Epcot (plus veggie burger @ Liberty Inn in America)
Studios ... I recommend not eating there
Animal Kingdom Picnic in the Park (portobello wrap + most sides) or Restaurantosaurus (veggie burger)

The veggie burgers are served on whole-wheat buns IIRC.

Thank you! Sounds like a lot of veggie burgers though...

I know I've gotten a vegan black bean burrito in the Mexico quick service restaurant in the past. I'm assuming that's still there?

the counter service locations have dietary information. This link does not specifically address vegetarian/vegan but does list CS locations with the information.

The cuban sandwich at Sunshine Seasons should be vegan. It has roasted vegetables as the filler. There are vegetarian Asian noodle dishes that are vegan also. The vegetarian platter at Tangierine Cafe should also be vegan.

The Lighthouse Sandwich in Columbia Harbor House in the MK should be vegan.

The grilled vegetable sandwich at Backlot Expres in Hollywood Studios could be vegan if ordered without cheese.

The veggie burgers are just what I remember, I'm afraid--we ended up eating 3: once because we got lost in the World Showcase and decided to eat where we were (Liberty Inn), once because we wanted more protein so we went for Restaurantosaurus instead of Pizzafari (which wouldn't work for you anyway), and once because the vegetarian sandwich at our hotel food court was mushroom based and I don't like mushrooms.

I can't believe I'd forgotten Columbia Harbour House, that sandwich is really good and they also have vegetarian chili which I think is vegan.

I don't know about Mexico (I've seen complaints about them lately though), but El Pirata y el Perico in the Magic Kingdom does have vegetarian black bean tacos and a taco salad. (Can't vouch for vegan.)

Check out reviews by user v_gan ... search for posts by her, she's done a few dining reports.

At Animal Kingdom, if you like spicy, do the Picnic in the Park and get the tandoori tofu and zucchini as a side. The vegetarian sandwich was just okay (all the ingredients were fresh, good quality, etc.; it just didn't quite work together) but the tofu was absolutely wonderful.

My parents are both vegan & they ate at the Tangierine Cafe @ Morocco in EPCOT 3 or 4 times during our 10 day vacation last month! They absolutely loved it!!

Flame Tree BBQ! :rotfl: J/k!

I used to be a vegetarian so I know this can be difficult.
I never visited Disney while I was a vegetarian so I don't really have any recommendations.

Not to rain of your parade, but this may be difficult. I'm thinking that even with something like a veggie burger option, that the bun might contain whey. Don't know how strict you are...but you know how those things go. Some people think chicken broth is vegetarian because there aren't actual pieces of meat floating around!

I think there was cheese on the Cuban sandwich at Sunshine Seasons. I do believe that the Lighthouse Sandwich is only vegan without the broccoli slaw. The chili at Columbia Harbour House is vegan.

You need to make sure you ask for a vegan bun or you will not get one. I don't eat buns, so it makes eating veggie burgers even more fun.

It is not easy, imo, to eat CS at WDW as a vegan but if you like veggie burgers and eat flour (which I don't) you can survive. I purposely made an ADR for each day of our upcoming trip b/c I found last year that the only good meals I really had were TS where I could talk to a chef and make sure what I was getting was vegan and I had some options.

Oh and Sunshine Seasons at Epcot was great, but you need to ask...I was getting VEGETABLE SOUP and thought to ask about the broth...yep, chicken stock in vegetable soup. :sad2:

There really are a lot to choose from. One of my favorites is the vegetarian meal at Tangierine Cafe in Morocco (beware though... make sure to tell them you're vegan. The bread and lentil salad are not vegan). My boyfriend and I posted a huge vegan dining review with lots of counter service places mentioned. You should check it out.... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2270539

Studios ... I recommend not eating there

Actually, I ate at Backlot Express and got the vegetarian flatbread sandwich without the cheese. It was SO GOOD! It has delicious vegan tomato pesto on it and comes with a side of black bean salad. I highly recommend that place.

Ok, another reply... El Pirata Y El Perico will probably be the best for the money you spend. It was delicious, that's for sure. You get 2 hard tacos with black beans and rice and a side of a bowl of black beans and rice. They have a fixin's bar where you can load whatever you want onto it. I think the price is somewhere around $5.50 and it seriously is so filling!

I know that Starring Rolls at the Studios has a veggie pita (my meat-loving father actually adores it!) but I do not know if it is vegan.
