My kids & hubby are big fruit & veggie eaters and I was thinking of picking up some fruit/veggies to have in the room - apples, oranges, bananas, carrot sticks, etc. - where is a good place to get produce around WDW - we will have a car available.

Definitely Publix - fantastic fresh produce, great selections, good prices. It's my main grocery store, besides Super Target. The produce at Winn Dixies and Albertsons always seem kinda off to me.

Are you coming in the airport, going 528 to I4? Here's the address of a Publix in Kissimmee:

Orange Lake Town Center
14928 E Orange Lake Blvd
Kissimmee, FL 34747-8210

Disney's on the other side of town from us, so I'm not familiar with all of the Publixes over there - someone else may be able to help you better with a closer Publix.

From October through May, there is a Farmer's Market in Celebration. Pretty good stuff. Not just produce either, some crafts.

Ted, what day of the week is the Farmers Market? TIA.

Up here, ours is May to October. Interesting that it is the opposite down there. I wonder why it is not year round?

Have you been to the ones in Winter Park or downtown? The produce at both places can be dismal sometimes, and the prices aren't any better than Publix. I'm dying to find a better farmers market. Is the one in Celebration any better?

And BCV, here's some info that Google turned up:

Celebration Sunday Farmers Market
Celebration Avenue & Mulberry
Celebration, FL
Contact: Karen/Vincent Ford
(407) 892-1135
OPEN-AIR/SEASONAL

October-June
Sunday, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Farmers markets tend not to be year round because there's more of a harvest in fall/winter/spring. We just visited the one near my future inlaws this past weekend (north of West Palm Beach), and there were maybe 6 booths, while during the fall/spring there are dozens.

Thanks for the info, Forever42. I also appreciate the hint about Publix. I usually shop at Goodings or the Winn Dixie North of WDW on Apopka Vineland Road. We don't cook but usually pick up some fruit.

I haven't been to the ones "way" up there in Orlando. :) The Celebration one is decent. Prices are not super low, but most of the produce is fairly fresh.

We went to a fruit and vegetable stand off I4 in Plant City once. The place is a shack/tent on a dirt lot, but they had SO much and it was almost all really fresh. We went during Strawberry season and they were selling flats for $4 or $5.

Thanks for the report :) I'll check out the one "way" down in Celebration when it opens ;)

I visit that produce stand every time we visit my family near Clearwater. Have you ever been to Parkesdale Farms? Oooh, the strawberries, shortcakes, and milkshakes...

Parkesdale is where we thought we were going when we ended up at the farm stand. :)

Did you say milkshakes?
