My dd has been accepted into the public Academic Magnet High School. Yeah! I have been advised to find a really good printer that uses reasonable ink. The teachers do not print out assignments for the kids; you have to do it at home. Does anyone have any good recommendations?

I love my epson but I would not necessarily call the ink reasonable. It is more than some. I like the print quality a lot. I had a Kodak and a HP in the paste and they were just okay. Serviceable.

We have a HP 1102 printer (something like that). I think we paid about $100 a year ago. While ink isnt "cheap" (we pay like $50ish for the ink, but it lasts us a long time. It is like a toner cartridge, so it doesnt dry out. We print a ton, so this works well for us. It is also wireless, which was something we needed... The only reason we got rid of the one we had that was comprable to this was because I needed wireless. We had the other one for like 14 years, and it still works perfectly! It is much better for us to put out more money for the printer and toner than to have to replace a $15-20 ink cartridge every month or so.

If you only need black and white prints, you can't beat the Brother HL 2240. The starter cartridge will print around 700 or so pages and you can get high yield refill cartridges that will do around 2000 pages for just over $20. Great printer for couponing too!

I finally broke down and bought a printer for school this year. As a college student whose degree program does not get many printer credits (like 40 pages for an English Education student), I wanted both cheap and decent.
I bought this printer http://www.target.com/p/hp-deskjet-...canner-j410e/-/A-12763402#prodSlot=medium_1_1 for about $50, and I love it. It has more than paid for itself over the last semester. The ink for it costs around $15ish, or $30ish for a two-pack black and color ink and prints nearly 200 pages per cartridge. It's also a scanner/copier, and I found that the scanning and copying functions work perfectly well. All in all, it's a great printer with reasonably priced ink.

We have a Kodak printer that uses very reasonable priced ink.

We have a love hate relationship with printers. We have bought and thrown out a bunch of them. Some printers break so easily. The ones that have cheaper ink cost more to buy for the same quality of printer. If you try to save money refilling ink cartridges or buying off brand ink, then the printers break even more easily. It seems like it is just a big game that is stacked against us.
