We're staying in a 1 bedroom at SSR and will have a full kitchen so I want to get some food items. I know Publix is kind of pricey, what other stores are nearby? Is there a Super Walmart?

There is a Winn-Dixie on Apopka Vineland which is quite close to WDW. I was not familiar with this store previously, but we found them to have decent prices. Much better than the Goodings at the Crossroad center, in our experience.

Not sure if there is a Super Walmart or not, as we did not veer too far from the WDW area, but I'm sure someone here will know.
Have a great time!!!

There is a super Walmart near Disney. I did some shopping there on my recent trip in December. If you go out the enterance near DTD and take a left like you were headed to I4 stay straight for about 5 miles and it is down on your right. Easy and about 7 mins from SSR (depending on traffic) as I was staying at OKW. :)

I found Publix to be quite reasonable and I love their deli sandwiches. Goodings is pricey, and Wyn Dixie was slightly higher then Publix. Super Walmart is probaby the cheapest, but I've never cared for their produce or deli.

I believe you can sign up for the Publix loyalty card online. Then you can punch in your phone number and be eligible for any weekly sales/discounts. I don't like standing in line and admitting that we don't have a card since that seems to scream TOURIST! and I'm nervous about drawing that type of attention to myself.

Kinda depends on what you are going to buy they each have some items they are more on than others.
Publix is usually a little more upscale than Winn Dixie and Wal Mart is the lowest ranked of the 3 generally.

I live in Florida and always shop at Publix,I think most of their prices are fair and they have buy one get one free specials all the time which I always take advantage of.Publix is the top supermarket in Florida and you can almost find one in every corner.Winn Dixie is not horrible, but I find that they have something at a great price and something else at a much worse price than I find at Publix.Plus some of their stores just don't have a very clean look,I have heard the Winn Dixie in Apopka Vineland just outside of the Disney Hotel Plaza entrance is pretty good.As far as prices Wal Mart will obviously have the best prices, but many times you might have to spend ten minutes in line before you get to the cashier, but for prices you can't beat it,I would shop there more often but the closest Supercenter is like 35 minutes away, compared to my Publix which is like 2 minutes away. There are 2 Wal Mart supercenters close to SSR one is south of I-4 on Apoka Vineland (the same road ouside the Hotel Plaza blvd Disney entrance),just go south and it's about 2-3 miles away. The other one is on Turkey lake rd as you get closer to Universal and Sea World. To get to this one go east on Palm Pkwy which is just north of the Hotel Plaza Disney entrance and keep going,Palm Pkwy will become Turkey lake rd and the Wal Mart will be on your left.

Winn Dixie is the one who has the loyalty cards.

That goodings is horrible and prices are insane. Something happened since the last time we were there. I almost got the vibe of a small locally owned convience store vs a large chain. Baby food, no options whatsoever and prices were more expensive than in the gift shop at boardwalk. I went there to get more variety and couldn't believe the prices!

There is also a Super Target. We've shopped there and always gotten in and out easily. If you want to go to the Wal-Mart...plan on a LOT of time. The drive takes a bit because of traffic, and we have found that Wal-Mart to always be packed.

Another option is to use one of the grocery delivery services. I have used We Go Shop, and you tell them where to shop and exactly what to get. I had them get all generic items and to shop at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart was out of milk and eggs, so she went to Publix and still stayed within the price range that I expected. She even brought the B1G1 items, which was a total suprise to us. :) The way I figured it, with the delivery fee, it was like buying brand name items. I didn't have to fight traffic or take time out of our relaxation time. They will even pick up coupons if you have them. My ONLY complaint was that she basically requested a tip (after she had to reschedule our delivery twice and was then late). I don't have a problem tipping, but I do have a problem with people telling me I need to tip. Plus, if they feel like they need extra money, they should build that into their delivery cost. Anyway, I recomend using it if it's an option for you. The delivery fee is based on your total grocery bill.

Where is the Super Target? We'll have our GPS, but distance wise..how far? I need diapers also and those are usually $$$ at the grocery stores (at least where I live)

I don't know the street...but I could drive you there, if I was in your car! :lmao: If someone else doesn't know, just check the Target website and search for the store. It's much closer than the Wal-Mart we usually go to. I think they built a new Super Wal-Mart that was closer to Disney a few years ago, but we haven't been off property since then, so I'm not too sure about this.

I always pack the diapers in the suitcase...then I have extra room when going home! :)

We always stop at Albertson's but I don't know if they have the best prices but it seems reasonable enough.

I think I heard somewhere Albertson's was totally leaving Florida with the possibility of just keeping one or two stores, one of which being the Windermere,Fl store just north of Disney. As far as the SuperTarget there are a few in the area the closest being just east of Apopka Vineland rd on 192.

There is a super target is just down the road (less than 10 minutes) from Windsor Hills. The grand opening was when I was there last March. Great store!

there is a super target not far from WDW. take a right on IRLO BRONSON and its about 2-3 miles down on the left.

I have shopped at the Super Walmart myself and had a grocery service shop there because the prices are nearly the same as here at home and we've got low grocery prices.

So I'd recommend them but I haven't seen the new Super Target so it might be closer? I didn't have any traffic at all though and it took me just a few mins each way going at around 10pm.

Oh no! We love that store. After we arrive at MCO we always have lunch at Chick Fil A and then get our groceries at Albertson's which is right there in the same plaza. I guess we'll have to make different plans if that one is closed now. I can't remember which street it was on....

Do you want the closest Walmart or the easiest?

To get to the easiest one, follow the signs for 192 towards Kissimmee, then take 192 east, stay on 192, it will be on your right about 7-8 miles or so. It is past the Super Target (on the left) which I do not recommend. I never shop at that Target I always go to the one on the other end of 192. You will also pass two Publix and a Winn-Dixie, all also on your left.

The closest one I know of is going to be the same direction, follow signs for 192 towards Kissimme then take 192 east until you get to Poinciana, then turn left. Follow Poinciana until you see the signs for Osceola Parkway, you will drive under an overpass, then turn left into the Walmart parking lot. This Walmart is newer and much nicer IMO. They have a TON of Disney stuff in there too.

FYI, if you go to the next intersection(instead of turning into Walmart), and turn left onto 535 it will take you to the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores. It's just a minute or so from Walmart and they have a Disney Outlet Store there.

Is that second Wal Mart you mentioned the one at 3250 Vineland rd,it seems to me that would be the easiest and closest one.
