I have a DS3 (4 in September) who is about 40 pounds and 42" tall. I want to buy a stroller for our trips to Disneyland in October and WDW in January, but am not sure which model would be best. We don't have anywhere near us that sells them, so I can't try it before I buy it. We currently have a Chicco Caddy, but I think he's just too big for it. Which would you buy? And Where would you buy it?

Thanks,
Kari

Note: He is our last child so we won't need a stroller for anybody else.

Check out eBay, you can get great prices for a 2005 model, some still new in the box.

Our DS5 is about the same measurements of your son and we ended up buying a a 2005 maclaren quest mod from albeebaby.com. I went to our local babies r us and tried out the volo (great stroller if you don't care if they can lay down, nice wide seat , his knees weren't up by his ears, and the canopy was really wide too, he just didnt like the seat) We looked at the triumph and it seemed a little narrow on him could have been the fabric, but finally decided on the quest mod he seemed to have more room along his sides and we got a great price online. Babysurplus on ebay is also albeebaby. HTH

Just make sure you buy from an authorized retailer or the warrenty is void. I got a 2005 Quest at Albeebaby.com for $159. The have the others as well. I have a Volo, too, but I love my Quest.

Do you have a Costco near you? There was a thread on this board earlier this week about Maclaren strollers there for $178. I picked one up and am still trying to decide whether or not to keep it (2 yo DD is getting heavy and more difficult to push around in my beloved Combi). The stroller at Costco is the 2005 Global Buggy which retails closer to $300.

I have a Volo which I love for dd4. We have made 3 Disney trips with it and I love it b/c it folds up so small, weighs hardly anything and is easy. I also like the mesh seat because I think it keeps her cooler. I don't miss the sunshade or recline for her b/c she is older. We take it everywhere here and elsewhere. I bought mine on ebay for $70 including shipping! That was before the Volo included a sunshade.

I just bought dd 6 months a Maclaren Quest Mod on eBay and it came yesterday. It is just so nice, beautiful! The seat reclines and is comfier and the shade is big, plus I like the pocket on the back of the shade. It is still lightweight. I paid $148 on eBay with shipping. It came New In Box and was quick to arrive. I believe the seller was "babysurplus" which is Albee Baby's ebay name?

You can't go wrong with a Maclaren! I had a $400 Peg Perego that we still use, but it doesn't compare b/c it is bigger, bulkier and harder to fold down.

Thank you so much for the information. Apparently, I also need to proofread before I post ( I swear that I can spell!! :) ) Maclaren with an "a" not an "e"!!! :)
I will look on ebay and the other websites tonight for a Volo or Quest. DH thinks that it's silly to buy ANOTHER stroller just for vacations, but if he pushed it more then he'd understand!! And I HATE the sunshade on our Chicco, it is always falling off.

Thanks again!!
Kari

Try craigslist.org in your area too. I just saw a MacLaren double stroller the other day. Its already sold now -- they go fast!! But you might check on there and see if anybody has a MacLaren for sale.

Get a Volo! We bought ours for my son, who just turned three thanks to the suggestions given here. I absolutely love it! So happy I invested the $. It goes up to 55 pounds, is so lightweight and just overall awesome. I bought it (a 2005) and the organizer for about $120 from www.barebabies.com. I bought the one with the chili mark fabric. It ships directly from Maclaren though. :)

we, too, had a Chicco caddy and hated it for various reasons (hard to push, handles too low for comfort, inconvenient canopy that falls off if it's flipped up, etc. etc). We got last year's model Triumph and have been very pleased with it. It's lightweight, folds (and opens) like a dream, it has a decent-sized basket and a fairly good canopy, and you can push it with one hand!!!

we got ours from Albee baby, too (in April, it was 109 at the time) and also got the universal organizer.

In early Spring I purchased the 2005 Maclaren Volo stroller in Salmon from the Target website (my review is posted on their site). I used a coupon code so with tax and S&H paid just over $100. I LOVE this stroller. My DD will be 4 in October, and I purchased the stroller for the same reason.... for our December trip to Disney.

The 2005 model will carry up to 55 pounds which is why we went with the Maclaren. It has an under carriage net basket as well as a sun shade (with the sun shade (canopy) open my daughter has plenty of space between the top of her and and the sun shade. The stroller is much taller than any other model I have owned and/or researched. The handles are much taller than most, and they are ergonomically shaped, so there is no "slouching" when my husband or I push the stroller. The wheels have independent locking systems, which is wonderful, and the stroller glides very easily when pushed. It also came with a carry strap that I have found to be very useful. The stroller was put to the test two weeks ago on our trip to Six Flags, and it more than passed the test! DD was tired of walking less than two hours in and the Volo made the rest of the day a breeze!

It is the most wonderful stroller that I have ever owned. I strongly recommend it!

I am in an identical situation, dd who turns 4 on september and we too had a Chicco Caddy (which I loved when she was less than 2.5).

Since we had a trip to NYC back in june, I decided, after seeing all the Maclarens, that the Quest was the stroller for us. We bought the pink albee baby exclusive and can´t be happier with it.

What sold me the Quest over the Volo is that the seat seems more comfy because it can be extended. I know I will never extend if with my dd because of her age, but it somehow seems softer or kinder to the back of her legs with the fold than if it had an edge there. I don´t think I am explaining it well (English is not my first language).

And also because she is older she doesn´t fall asleep as easy as before, so it helps a little to have her reclined.

The basket holds a lot more than you would ever think, though it won´t hold a huge diaper bag, but it will hold the contents if not in the bag.

She can hop in by herself, has a good harness system, and her feet can rest on the foot band (not like in her Combi stroller where the foot rest was too high, so her feet would dangle and would stop the wheels) and the seat is really deep, so she looks very comfortable in it.

I am editing because I forgot to add that it is really easy to push with my dd (38 lbs) sitting in it. I pushed her all through Manhattan and will be using for our upcoming trip to WDW in september.

We hardly ever used the combi because we bought it when my dd hit 33 lbs and it was soooo hard to push with her in it (and also the other things I mentioned). It was so bad that last september on our trip we decided to leave the stroller at home and rent a stroller from www.abbf.com

I love my Maclaren Quest. They're not too expensive and are as sturdy as a pushchair but as convenient as a stroller.

Loads of people take them to Disney and now I can see why!
