Hi all,
I am new to the DVC world and was wondering what company is the best to deal with, for renting points. Or skip the company and deal directly with the good people here on the Disboards?
Thank you for your time and any help!!

You might want to edit your post to remove the details about dates and resort preferences because it reads like a “wanted to rent” post.

After the issues with the shutdown this past spring and the way that the major rental companies responded it, I‘m reluctant to recommend a company. You’re better off dealing directly with an owner on the Rent/Trade board. They tend to be more flexible and don’t charge as much as the rental companies.

But if you feel more comfortable dealing with a company, then go with DVCstore.com. They’re a board sponsor and have a very good reputation.

I want to add to report anyone who initiates contact with you via PM that was not something initiated by you by posting to thr Rent/Trade.

Please be sure to research renting and be comfortable with it all. COVID has taught us that renting is even riskier than one thinks because non refundable truly means that, even when the reason for not going isn’t your choice...ie. travel restrictions, quarantine, etc,

Some people have lost money in all of this. So, if you go with a broker, be sure you ask what happens in case of an emergency and resorts close...same with a private owner...understand all the terms carefully,

Not sure I would recommend renting right now, but as long as someone is okay with it all, and is okay with most like.y giving up things like date changes and cancelIng...all that you get with Disney..than the savings might be worth it.

As a renter, I am WAY more comfortable (especially with Covid) going through someone who owns that I trust versus a company.

I agree I’ve now rented three different reservations through the rent trade board and a been fantastic. And I agree with above make sure you read terms very carefully if you’re concerned about canceling or uncomfortable I wouldn’t rent until you're positive You’re going to go to be honest. I read the giant thread about issues with renting through a broker unnamed and although it sucks, the terms are VERY clear so just make sure you’re comfortable. The flexibility is definitely not the same as booking A cash reservation with Disney where you can back out at the last minute. We’re totally comfortable with traveling to Disney right now so I was not worried whatsoever.

Read all the sticky threads at the top of the DVC Rent/Trade Board before you do anything.
Repeating this advice because it is VERY important for both owners and renters who want to use the Disboards Rent/Trade Board.

FWIW, the R/T Mods REJECT FAR MORE threads than get approved. Some owners need multiple tries to post their offers because they do not read those pinned (aka Sticky) threads before they attempt to post. Some owners even get banned from using the DIS R/T Board because they violate rules after their thread is approved.

IN A NUTSHELL:

Renters - read the pinned threads and make sure you do your due diligence before sending any money. Don't post your own thread - instead, reply to an offer. Use the Conversation (aka PM) system to exchange personal information with your owner.

Owners - Read the pinned threads and be sure to follow the rules. Don't edit an approved thread until & unless you are sure your edit is allowed! Use the Conversation (aka PM) system to exchange personal information with your renter.

I’ve gone through the rent/trade board here and it went well. I’d go through it again if/when we want to rent.
