Ok, so it's time for me to plunge into the world of iPhones. I have an iTouch and LOVE it!!!! But my phone is ancient and I would LOVE to get an iPhone. I'm interested in the iPhone 3GS 16GB. I've checked with AT&T store and the apple store and both run $199.00.

Just thought I'd throw it out there if there a cheaper place to look. I don't mind a refurbished one, but I would want a protection plan on it.

If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

Not really, as iPhones, like so many other "hot" electronic gadgets, tend to be price-fixed (in this case, by Apple/AT&T).

You might be able to get one for a few dollars cheaper at Walmart...

:) Love my 3GS, but hate, hate, hate my AT&T coverage. I am 41 and use it as a phone, some text, and an Ipod. I don't really use it for the internet. DH and I each have one and we only work about 2 miles from home. So by the time I leave work I come home and get on my computer. I am sorry I can't help you about the cost.....tonight I was trying to figure out how to get my Piglet photo on as wallpaper and change the black home screen to a different color. I am blonde.

Good luck with you purchase--it really is a nice instrument. www.idesigniphone.com has some great wallpapers to choose from. I just ordered skins from uniqueskins.com. Can't wait to see how they turn out. I got one with candy canes, halloween candy, a lime color and one that has Leonitis the Spartan king from the movie 300 ( Iwas able to create them myself from downloading my own custom pics from my computer). Currently I have Jack Sparrow and I just love looking at hom from time to time. I have never ordered from them so we will see.

I was able to buy my refurb 3GS the day after thanksgiving for $49. They rarely go on sale but when they do they go fast :)

ETA. This was through AT&T premier store online

there's rumor that the new Iphone launches 6/7 and speculation that that is when they'll open it to other carriers. I'm holding off getting one til then

The refurbs from ATT can not have AppleCare warranty added. That mattered to me, but it might not be a deal breaker for you. SquareTrade could be an option, maybe.

I got mine at the Apple store. I just like dealing with them better than a phone store.

DH and I got our 3GS refurbs for $49 through AT&T's website. They don't run specials very often, but it was worth the wait!

I got the 3GS at the ATT store, just easier since I knew nothing about them when I got it but the warranty is a big deal because they are battery eaters and they will replace the battery if it kicks it and the batteries are worth a lot of moola if you don't have the warranty!

I got mine through the apple website so I could use mypoints! It arrived here in 2 days. Everything went very smoothly.

Hi there. I won't address carriers (AT&T currently is the only US carrier to have it, rumors are this will change in June, and rumors also say not until 2012). But I would not buy an iPhone today. I would wait a month. Apple is having their World Wide Developer Conference starting June 7. Historically, this is when the new iPhone for the year is released. The 3Gs is 11 months old. Also in June is the new iPhone OS, which will enable the main point Android phones use against the iPhone, and that is multitasking. This, however will not be available to the original (2007) iPhone, and iPhone 3G (2009). It will run on the iPhone 3Gs (2009-current). Chances are, if history holds true, the 2010 iPhone will be released, the "current" model will drop in price shortly as the clear out the inventory. So to answer your question shortly - Wait a month and decide if you want the newest model, or the model available today, a 16GB iPhone 3Gs. That phone currently is $199 I believe, and again, if history holds true, will be $99 in a month. PM me if you have any questions. :)

EDIT: Oh, and since you want to know the best place, I would suggest an Apple store. The phone price, like all apple products, will be the same (vary as much as 99¢). You will get the best service from an Apple store.
