Hi Everyone,

My wife and I are extremely interested in buying into Saratoga Springs. Any suggestions the best way to buy? We have been checking out the Timeshare store and they seem like they have some good deals. Wea re interested in about 200 pts. Also from past experience is 200 pts a pretty good amount?? Any suggestions would be awesome!

Thanks!

Hi Jack and Shannon,
The Timeshare Store is the sponsor here and seem to be well regarded and generally nice people - I haven't purchased through them myself, but if I were going to buy a resale, they are the ones I would go to first!

It's your choice if you prefer to buy a resale or buy through Disney, though. There are plusses and minuses to each, of course, and I may not list them all, but here goes:

Resale Pluses:
Often can get a better price than buying through Disney and is an easy way to get a sold out resort.

Resale Minuses: Your bid goes through ROFR, which means that Disney gets final say over whether you get that contract or they buy it at the price you have set forth. To some, this is no big deal, but to others, it seems to be ulcer-causing stress.

Disney Plusses: Sometimes they have a good promotion.
If you want to finance through Disney, this is the way to get that Disney Financing.
No ROFR issues

Disney Minuses: Price is generally higher than resale
Sometimes they don't have the points you want in the use year that you want

I am sure I left something out, but maybe some others will chime in. There used to be a consideration about closing costs, and who paid them, but I am not up on that and I believe that Disney is now charging some closing costs, making that less of a topic?mm

Good luck deciding which way to go!

We started with 200 points. We figured we'd add onto our Marriott one week stays with a few days at Disney in a Studio. So I calculated accordingly.

With 200 points at SSR you can get:

- 2 weeks in a Studio during Adventure and Choice season (Fall and Winter), around 11-12 days the rest of the year.
- 1 week in a 1 Bedroom during Adventure and Coice, and 5-6 the rest of the year.
- 6 days in a 2 bedroom during Adventure (Winter and september), but 4-5 the rest of the year.
- 2-3 days in a Grand Villa most of the year.

We found ourselves using and preferring a one bedroom plus wanting to get a 2 bedroom some vacations to take other family with us. That led to our recent 120 pt add-on.

You'll get a day or two fewer when you transfer to Beach Club, Boardwalk, Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom. You'll get a day more when you go to Old Key West.

Best way to figure it out is determine what sort of vacation you'll likely take, consult a point chart and buy the number of points needed for it. If you expect to go every other year then buy half the point amount and bank-n-borrow.

200 was a good starting point for us. It works for many. And if you expect to be using studios a lot, it's a very comfy amount.

Thanks for the info, 200 seems to be a good starting point for now and then we may add on in the future.

That's the spirit. Personally, I'm happy with our 320 SSR points, but I'm figuring on a small add-on when/if they get around to doing a Contemporary Villa. A lot of folks will do add-ons as new resorts open and take advantage of the 11 month booking window. Or they'll do resale add-ons of the older sold out resorts for the same reason.

Have fun with your DVC!

Good Morning,,

Thanks again and we are definitely excited about purchasing soon.. We actually let an awesome resell for saratoga slip away about a month ago because of last minute nerves and we were bummed that it got sold.

Timeshare store seems really reasonable,, when we spoke to disney 200 pts would have been about $91 per point after promotion and $220 a month with the 10% down and 10 yr loan not including annual dues.

Timeshare store for the same points was about $82 per point and $200 a month same 10% down and 10yr loan. Also alot of the resales the seller will pay the closing costs if that will close the deal.

We are just waiting for the right deal to show up again and then we are in, keep you posted!

Also bubbley, I tried to IM you back but my account won't let me.. Thanks for the reps name and if you read this could you tell me what company she works for?? Thanks everyone!
