What do you suggest for a nice surprise dinner for my 9 year old ds' 9th birthday? His bday is the week after we are in Disney so he won't be expecting it! All suggestions are appreciated!

What does he like to eat? Does he still like the characters? Maybe pick a restaurant at his favorite park. If he likes MGM, how about Sci-Fi? It is one of my nephews favorites (he is 11).

 Have Fun!

I recently asked DS (now 10, but 9 on our last trip) for his favourite breakfast, lunch, and dinner at WDW. If it's at all possible, I'll try to incorporate his choices into the plans for next trip. His choices were:

Breakfast - Breakfastasaurus character breakfast at AK
Lunch - Sci Fi at MGM
Dinner - 'Ohanas at the Polynesian Resort.

Just for the record, I asked DD (now 7, but 6 on our last trip) and her responses were:

Breakfast - Princess breakfast at Norway in Epcot
Lunch - Prime Time at MGM (she's never actually been, but wants to try it)
Dinner - 'Ohanas at the Polynesian Resort.

'Ohanas is great for adults, too, and children are welcome to eat the same food as the adults or order from a standard kid menu. There are hula hoop contests and coconut rolling contests for the kids, which both of mine enjoyed. I think if you request it in advance they'll arrange a cupcake or something for your DS's birthday, too. After the meal you can wander down to the beach at the Polynesian and watch the electrical water pageant, if it's scheduled.

Guess it depends on your ds taste and your pocketbook. I asked all our 3 ds where they wanted to eat this time and only little ds 11 replied with - why the rainforest cafe of course! I think the sci-fi would be a good choice too. Also for the atmosphere maybe the coral seas. But make sure you get a table right next to the fish for some great viewing. If he is not into eating fish there are other alternatives from the menu. Depends if he likes character, our dss favorite is chef mickeys. THe dessert bar and entertainment are great and you can even buy a souvenier photo of your special time.

We went to Chef Mickey's in 2000 for my son's 10th birthday.

He loved it. They brought him a cupcake and we sang Happy Birthday to him.

Our boys are almost 13 and 8 now and would love to go back this trip if we had the time.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody!
O'Hana's sounds great. If any codes come out for Feb., I'm going to try to get a reservation there for a room. I really want to try a monorail resort.
