My DS needs glasses. I've been shopping around. I've seen some good deals at BJ's and Penny's. I think I like the selection at Penny's better than BJ's. Quality is probably about the same. Penny's has a $99 package that includes a warranty for breakage or prescription change up to 9 months.

I am interested in good selection and quality glasses as well as price. Has anyone come across anything similar to the above packages or better? TIA. :)

Check out zennioptical.com. There are several threads about them. You will need a printed prescription and the customer service line is great help. You will also need to know the temple arm length. They will not take an order over the phone, but once you know where to put in the correct numbers from your prescription, it is easy. You can get 5 pairs for the same price as Penny's or BJ's. Depending upon the age and care of your son, you might be better off investing in backup pairs!

Thanks! :) I'll look into zennioptical.

I looked at $39glasses.com and saw a pair I thought might work. They were $79 ($30 cheaper) than Penny's, but with the warranty it tips the scale towards Penny's. I want them to look super. It's hard because I want to see them on first! Maybe after we have determined a style that suits, I'll be more ready to buy online.

I don't know specifically about boy's glasses....but I recently purchased glasses from Target. They were the least expensive of the places I compared and had a nice selection of frame styles.

FYI-I checked Walmart, Pearle Vision, the optical provider we have through husband's employer.

I would check Wal-Mart. Right now you can get a complete set of glasses for 40 bucks until the end this month. Also they have 9.00 frames.

The huge benefit I found to buying kids glasses at BJs over Walmart or Target or Penney's or Sears or Lenscrafters. Oldest DS was still considered a kid at BJs when he was 13 while at all the other stores I'd have to get him an adult package. I got adult frames at a kid price. :thumbsup2

Thanks guys. :)

For now, we're just shopping for something that looks good. It's hard to find! I guess we're still getting used to the idea of it.

I have to go with Zenni. They are great. We have ordered several pairs of glasses from them and have never had a problem! They have a great selection and you can't beat the cost.

We used Eyemasters in our mall. Two pair of kids' glasses for $99 plus I paid about $30 for a warranty on one pair (the associate said just to get it on one pair, then whichever pair needed work first, could be "the" pair with the warranty). We've taken them back in several times for quick adjustments, or a lost screw or once they got really bent out of whack when my boys were rough-housing. They fixed them quickly every time. My son has his favorite pair he wears every day, and I keep the spare pair in my room. I am so glad we got 2 pair!

my husband's insurance pays quite well on glasses, we go to the optometrist, not a chain or anything. Both my boys ended up with Nike glasses with flexible frames. We did not purchase an extended warranty on them or anything of the like. Somehow my youngest broke his on the nose area. We were about two weeks over a year of having them. They got it covered under the warranty the frames carry, it cost us $20. I want to say that was a deductible.

We also all chipped in and paid for my mother in law to have her eyes checked and a new pair of glasses. My sister in law called around, at that time Penney's had the best deal for my mother in law. I think we ended up paying around $250 for a pair of no line bifocals, the exam and the frames weren't the basic either. When she priced Walmart it was $400.

Do you have an Eyeglass Express? I keep seeing ads for them on the tv.

That must vary from region to region. We got DD15 glasses at Target in December and we were charged the child's price and also got a year long no questions warranty. They said that people are children until they turn 18.

Target & Walmart are great for boys. If you go to Wal MArt ask if they're owned by Wal Mart or not. One Walmart here owns the Optical & they are cheaper than the other that is just a rented space.

Zenni Optical is great. My SIL gets my nieces glasses there. She has a pretty basic prescription and just gets the $8 frames. She got her 8 pairs for about $100. That way she can coordinate with her outfits and she doesn't have to worry if a pair or two get broken or lost.

My DH has a much more complicated prescription but he mainly wears contacts. He has back up glasses from Zenni that cost him $30. They are really nice. My mom also has a pretty complicated progressive bifocals prescription and her glasses cost her $60....the cheapest she could find at a brick and mortar stores was about $500. We have been very happy with Zenni.

You guys are great! You've given me a lot of options. I'm looking into them. Thank you so much! :goodvibes

I have not recieved ours yet but last week Eyebuydirect had there glasses on sale BOGO free. I got DD15 2 pairs for $20.00. They have them starting at 7.99 on up. Depending on his size they seem like a good deal. DD has a small head so I searched for the small frames and they even called me to confirm my measurements because of the small size.
These will just be back ups (wearing to Disney and sports - she lost her last good pair on Splash Mountain had to place a rush order for a new pair last October). Now I want to have extras around the house.

I just got my dd9 a pair of glasses at Foreyes for $44 with a 1 year warranty. They were $29 but it didn't include scratch resistant coating or the warranty. It is more than zennioptical but we wanted help with sizing and seeing them in person. She has been wearing a pair from zennioptical for a year now but her rx changed.

I just called For Eyes. They do have some good deals.

Right now, the doctor is forecasting my DS's eyes will change within the next 6 months. This visit was a dramatic difference from the last visit. Knowing that, so far Penny's has the better deal. Their warranty covers a prescription change within 9 months. It also covers breakage and scratches. It was explained to me that basically you buy the frames and the prescription and warranty are "free". They had some nice frames and reasonable prices too. I'm leaning towards them for our first time purchase.

I'm keeping all the information on file from this thread for future purchases though! Thanks a million everyone! :)

Good to know RE Pennys..... I just got my daughters @ Lens crafters. They were cheaper than BJ's, Pearle & Eyewise. I like that you can get them fixed @ any lenscrafters

Target Optical charges $60 MINIMUM to replace glasses if they get broken. We bought DS's glasses there 2 years ago, and that was the warranty. If push had come to shove I would have done it, but it wasn't a great deal. I will say you can buy a whole new pair for less than $60 at Target, so we got one expensive pair and one cheap pair. The expensive pair had the clip-on sunglasses, but they were too heavy so DS hated them.

Last year we got his glasses from LensCrafters. I can't remember what the warranty is (or if they even HAVE a warranty). We ordered a cheap pair of prescription sunglasses from Zenni just for WDW and they were fine. $18 total, so I wasn't too worried if they got lost or broken.

DS goes in next week for another exam. Hoping he might make the switch to contacts!
