I graduated High School a month ago and for my graduation my parents decided to buy me DVC at AKL because AK is my favorite park and we stayed at AKL previously and I really enjoyed it. I do have questions concerning the AKV what my questions are what is the experience like of staying at AKV compared to staying in a regular room in the AKL? Is there a major difference? How do I thank my parents for buying this for me cause I know its not cheap? Thanks in advanced.

Holy Cow!!!!!

Do you need a sister (a much older sister)?

Congrats on graduating:cool1:

You are a very lucky graduate. My son graduates from high school next year.....I hope he doesn't hear about this!!! :ssst:

How do I thank my parents for buying this for me cause I know its not cheap?

1. Stay out of trouble (all kinds)

2. Go to college and get a good education so you can get a good job and taken THEM on vacation in the future.

3. Call your parents at least once a week (assuming you're going away to college).

4. Send them surprise "I love you" cards periodically just out of the blue.

5. Continue being a good kid that parents want to buy an out-of-this world graduation gift like a DVC membership for!

Congratulations! (for both graduating and the DVC!)

Thank you I just hope that I have a high paying job after college so I can do something nice for them in return.

I agree totally. And that's not just because I am Doc CW's mom at all. ;)

Sweetie, I can assure you that you dont ever need to buy them super nice, expensive presents in return down the line. Instead just be the best child a mother could have! Love like its your last day and make them proud!!

When my first son turned one I bought an SSR contract "for" him with the intention of using it for the family and passing it on to him when he's older. I've now done the same for my newest child (though its AKL) and all I can ask in return is that they just continue to be the best kiddos they can be. All us parents know that our kids will have bad days but there's a difference between having bad days and being a bad child!! Do your best to be a great child with minimal bad days and your parents will thank you forever just like you'll be thanking them forever for the DVC!!

**on a side note, here's a question for your mom: did you make your child get a part time job to pay the MFs?? ;)

staying at AKV is better.

It is much nicer. Only stay in studios and they are the BEST at AKV. the furniture is more updates. the tv's are the flat screen. even the studios have the dvd's player.

very nice place!!! if you love AKL you will definitely love AKV.;)

That is such a generous gift. Be sure you take them on vacation with you :)

Congrats and enjoy!!!!

Married_Him_@_Disney- We are buying in in August at 160 points. Originally he wanted a car but when we went to WDW this past March we took the tour and DS changed his mind and wanted DVC. Since he originally wanted the car I took the money for graduation and placed it in a 3 month CD so he had time to think about it and make sure he really wanted DVC over a car. The money comes out of the CD August 20th so wee will be buying in for him the next day. At this point DS and I are both wishing I hadn't put it into the CD since ressies for AKV Kidani Village will be available August 10th. I guess that's my fault for trying to over think things.:headache:

moredisneyplease-Yes, DS has a job and we are spliting the MF as long as he is in college and then when he has a stable income he will take over the MF completely. And you are so right about him just being him. DS is 17 and worked his tail off to graduate early, after only 3 years in high school. In addition we have a 2 year old DD whom he is totally devoted to and helps care for whenever DH and I need help. I couldn't have asked for a better son.

Money is a poor substitute for love and pride. Concentrate on school. Get good grades. Make good friends. Be a decent and responsible citizen. And make your parents part of your adult life.

I guarantee no matter how old either of you get you'll treasure having a mom and dad just as much as they'll treasure having you.

And no matter what silliness you get into as you break out into the world just don't do anything so stupid it warrants your parents having to kill somebody. (That was my grandfather's warning passed down from my mother.) In other words, don't embarrass or endanger yourself unduly.

Wow! You've got the best parents in the world!

Can they adopt me?:bitelip:

We haven't had the pleasure of staying there yet, but from everything I read here it is a wonderful place! Enjoy!

DisneySpaz: thanks for all of the info and for raising such a fine son! I think its a great idea that you have him pay (part) of the MF from the beginning. It teaches him the responsibility of a financial commitment.....he'd be paying insurance if he rec'd a car, right? So instead he pays MF and gets to vacation for the next 50 years! :worship: Amazing idea!

I just think back 13 years ago (when I graduated) and how many cars I've gone through since then. Cars come and go for most people but timeshare is something he can keep and use for decades to come!!

Assuming you got a fairly decent rate on that (at least better than the dirt poor savings accounts these days) it was a better decision. There will be plenty of Kidani to go around for quite some time. 10 days won't matter that much. FWIW, I have a large sum tied up in a CD until November. Part of that will go to a BLT add-on but considering I get 5.1% I'm not anxious to break into that piggy bank until the term ends.

As for DS, I'm glad to hear at least one representative of the next generation has his head on his shoulders. Either I'm getting old or I was always a fuddy duddy, but you do worry after hearing all the iPOD/MySpace crowd foolishness that goes on. Just shows there are good and bad apples in every crop.

DH and I both agree - great idea!! A gift to last nearly a lifetime!

Thanks for all your wonderful words.

BroganMc - Yeah I got a pretty good rate 4.85% so I don't want to touch it but I keep hearing about developer points and rates going up when BLT comes out and I guess I am just second guessing my decision. Deep down i know it was the right one. On a side note DS does have an IPOD however it is primarly downloaded with Disney videos and movies for his DSis. As for MySpace he cannot stand that internt stuff, too much drama as he puts it.

moredisneyplease - That was the reaon for having him pay half of the MF's. I want him to see what it is like having a regular bill he must pay out of his earnings and out of his checking account. I know he will be fine but when you are watching your own bank account shrink I think it has more of an impact then when your parents just talk about money.

Again thank you guys for al your positive comments. You have totally made DS day.

Congratulations to both Doc CW and Disney Spaz! I hope you continue to do well in college and succeed in life after. And remember- success means happiness, not money.

:goodvibes OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG THAT IS AWESOME. MY dd will graudate next year.....I just read this to her and she said "MOM I WANT DVC TOO!" :faint: I thought we were being nice when we bought into DVC and split our 300 points into three 100 pt. contracts for our kids to have ONE DAY. :rotfl:

No really THAT IS AWESOME.....CONGRATUATIONS. Make them proud and promise to wheel them around WDW when they are in their 90's and they still want to continue to going to WDW. I made my daugther promise me that.
