Trying to talk DH into staying a few days at a DVC resort. Really pushing hard for us to buy within the next 1 or 2. He has an opportunity with his job to travel to Orlando quite a bit and my sister just informed me that she is moving there. So, I am pretty sure that he would be more interested in purchasing if we stayed in the one bedroom. Have shown him several pics of the studios and he wasn't that impressed. He did coment that he liked the space and laundry at the one bedrooms. He really likes balconies...ones you can sit out on and drink a glass of wine or coffee. I am just not sure which one to take him to. Any help would be appreciated. FYI...looking to arrive Sept. 24 and leave on the 29th.

Thanks!

OKW has the most impressive 1 bedroom as far as size. Does he like golf? A golf view would be impressive to sit out on the porch and watch. The porches at OKW are at least twice the size as the ones at the other resorts.

Hummm....that is funny because he just mentioned being able to play golf somewhere. I also think he'd like the relaxed atmosphere of OKW. They do have a marina where he can rent boats? Can you rent bikes there as well? Is more quiet and relaxed than the others?

If he's into golf SSR might be another option to consider. One of the things my golf mad DH loves about SSR is the ability to walk to the LBV pro-shop and the first tee. He is also very excited about the next phase of construction, with three buildings being added right on the golf course. I'm guessing we'll be requesting a fairway view at some point...

Oh, you can rent bikes at SSR but no boats.

Anyway, just a thought. :wave2:

OKW is not necessarily my favorite resort, but the 1 BR's are very impressive. They are quite large! The views at OKW are really very nice and relaxing. Most overlook either golf course, water view or woods. I think you can request which one you want. At OKW you can park your car right in front of your unit. All the other 1 BR's are of the same general size (BCV, BWV, VWL, SSR). They are nice but not nearly as big as OKW. They do offer other neat amenities - i.e. being on the boardwalk is really nice with being so close to MGM and EPCOT, plus all the restaurants on the boardwalk or in the boardwalk hotels.

Good luck!

Ok, I have been in BWV one bedrooms (looked at, not stayed) and BCV one bedrooms (friend owns) and we own SSR. I like SSR a little more (based on decor), followed by BW then probably BC. Of course this is personal preference.

SSR is quite relaxed and like a previous poster mentioned walking distance to the golf club house (its the same golf course that runs through OKW).

Now OKW has larger one bedrooms but from the sounds of it you will want either OKW or SSR. SSR's dues are smaller, right now anyway, and have a longer contract. Plus if short notice availibility is something you will need SSR will fill that need.

:)

My DH actually went out and purchased a 200 pt contract with some money he inherited, after he stayed in a 1 bedroom at OKW. It was the golf course view, and the wonderful balconies!! There is not another resort that can compare with OKW's balconies, and the golf course weaves in and out around the villas at OKW. OKW is also MUCH larger, has an actual dining room, and an actual laundry room, and more storage for your luggage. It's calm and peaceful, and it's great fun to kibbitz on everyone's golf game. :goodvibes

OKW has the best balconies in all of WDW. They are like rooms instead of just a narrow ledge. You won't get the animals like you see at AKL on the savannah, but you will have a great view of the golf course, the water ways and occasionally Illuminations.

Here's another vote for OKW; and yes you can rent bikes and boats there. Does the extra 12 years for SSR have any impact on your thinking? Good luck in making your decision! :sunny:

Wow....they all sound great. DH likes to relax while on vacation and only goes to WDW to make me happy. He's a total doll. We stayed at the Dolphin this past Sept. and he really didn't like the boardwalk are...too busy and chaotic. He wants to relax and have some 'peace and quiet' when not at the parks. So, what everyone has mentioned it looks like OKW and SSR are are best choices. I think he'd like the ability to park the car right up at the building at OKW. We always drive to the parks when we are there. He does play golf and rents the boats while we are there. How are the rooms in terms of being worn out at the OKW, I know that SSR is relatively new and has minimal wear and tear.

I didn't realize that SSR has lower payments and longer contracts....thanks.

Our room was in great shape at OKW when we were there. No problems. One thing to note with SSR is since it is a newer resort, the landscaping is not full grown yet, in other woods, what I am trying to say is that OKW has lots of beautiful mature landscaping, as well as natural woods on the premises--to me it's no comparison to SSR. I also thought the dining options were very minimal at SSR. Just my 2cents!

We stayed at OKW only because we couldn't get in anywhere else. It really grew on us. I wasn't too excited about going, but boy was it nice. Again, those 1 BR's are just humungous. It spoiled us for ever going to the other DVC resorts. Also, our patio had a full sized table (not just an end table and a couple of chairs). We were able to eat on the patio. It was huge. :yay:

The answer to all your questions is yes.

OKW is on a golf course. Many of the rooms have a golf course view. OKW has the most impressive rooms as far as size. OKW is a very relaxing resort. OKW has a marina where you can rent boats and you can take them to DTD. OKW has a bike rental too. OKW is condo-style rather than hotel style. If you drive, you can park your car outside your building and be in your room in seconds. The tallest buidlings are 3 stories. Not all buildings have elevators, but some do for handicapped access, so if you need that, you request it. It has one main pool atnd three quiet pools. It has basketball, shuffleboard, tennis, a cute little lounge, the main pool has a new slide, one of the quiet pools also has a snack bar, the main pool has a snack bar, there is a decent sit down restaurant, there is a gift.grocery store. It is like a little soprt of self-contained town, and it is wonderful. To the best of my knowledge, there is not a room with a bad view.

Staying at OKW is like having 2 vacations at once.. relaxing resort time and then fun park time... I prefer the relaxing resort time, I think! It sound like a 1BR at OKW is right up his alley. The verandahs at OKW are more than marvy. and there's nothing better than excersisng one's verandah rights.

Good luck!
