Anyone have any recommendations for omega 3 or fish oil supplements for kids in a chewable form? We are using the Omega 3-6-9 Junior by Nordic Naturals right now and havent been using it long enough to see results but my son doesnt like the way it tastes. It said it was chewable so I assumed a chewable tablet (my fault for not reading it better) and it is a chewable capsule so basically when you bite into it the liquid squirts out into your mouth and it is a yucky lemony fish taste. I could deal with the taste as an adult but my son cannot get past it. Anyone tried any other products that your kids like? By the way DS is 8 yrs old and so we are looking for a supplement that would be age appropriate for him that is chewable as he cannot swallow pills yet. Thanks.

DD prefered the strawberry flavor. They do come in other flavors. We just use the liquid usually lemon flavor. DD learned how to swallow pills to make it easier. She has been doing that since she was about 5.

What particular brand do you give your DD?

We have tried the Nordic Naturals also. Same problem.
My friend sells Amway and so we get the kind from them. They are like gummi candy. They taste really good - we actually keep the out of DS's reach because he would eat them all.
Nordic Naturals has one now that is double strength so you take less.

I personally don;t think it's wise to give supplements like this to children!

Are you a Doctor?

OP - We use the strawberry flavored Nordic Naturals as well. When we were using the lemon ones we popped them with a pin and squirted them on a small piece of bread. It went down better that way.

we pop ours too, but put them into the waffle/cereal/ eggs or whatever they are eating for breakfast.

OP - Here's the ones we use now. http://www.nordicnaturals.com/en/Products/Product_Details/98/?ProdID=1442

It's been awhile since we used the lemon ones but they were not the "Children's" version. I bought exactly what was recommended back then. The strawberry ones are very small and I give 4 each to all 3 of my children.

As a side note - we've had great luck with their Nordic Berry vitamins! My oldest has many issues(Hence the supplements) and would never chew a regular vitamin!

I have two boys, 5 and 3. I give them two different Omega vitamins - Lil Critters Omega-3 Gummy Fish and the strawberry Nordic Naturals DHA Junior. They like both but it took a while for my 3yo to like the Lil Critter brand. I give them two different brands because I like the idea of them being from different sources. The Lil Critters is plant based from seed oil and marine algae. The Nordic Naturals is made from cod liver oil.

I give my son Emulsified Norwegian Cod Liver Oil-- orange flavored, by TwinLab, from Vitamin World. He prefers it to the gummies-- and he loves regular gummies.

We just bought Disney gummy vitamins that have DHA in them and my kids LOVE them. I ate one and they taste just like a gummy bear. Not sure how the level of DHA compares to the vitamins in the OP, but at least they would be eaten without complaint.

doctor or not you are right. fish oil specifically can have blood thinning effects along with vitamin e, It is true that all of these supplements are good for eye health and many other things but unless advised specifically by a dr to add the others outside the reg daily vitamins it is risky especially in children. I am not trying to be a debby downer but it is true. right now the best extra supplement for kids is vit d now seen to help prevent diabetes in children, and some cancers. If you want to give them to your kids run it by your pedi, or at least let them know because alot of homeopathics can interfere with many meds, and cause bleeding, becareful when giving motrin and aspirin on top of these supplements. Good luck to all.;)

I give my boys Scott's Cod Fish Liver Oil, the type you take with a spoon. I have talked with my doctor and she said it was fine to give them these supplaments. I also took Cod Fish Liver Oil as a child, and it was only beneficial for me.

I wouldn't give it to my DD either. But if your Dr ok'd it ...I pop mine in the fridge believe it or not.No fish taste or burps.

I like the Nordic Berries for a multi for kids. It's a gummy one and tastes great. I really Love the Nordic Naturals products and use them for myself as well. I think that an omega supplement is important as well, because most kids don't get enough through their diet, and it's so important for brain development. It's also been proven to help kids in school focus. I've found all of these supplements at seacoastvitamins.com for less than Whole Foods or a health food store sells them for.

The Lil Critters Omega 3 gummies have a great taste. They're not 3-6-9 like the NN Juniors you're using but may be a good option for now. They're similar to the Nordic Naturals Omega-3 gummies but have much less of a fishy taste (we've tried both).

We use Barlean's. Omega Swirl. Health food store, refrigerated. Liquid and lemon-flavored. My son calls it "lemony goodness". :thumbsup2
