I have ressies for GC mid June, but now am having 2nd thoughts about it . I could save hundreds to spend at the parks by staying elsewhere. Are there any 4*'s nearby that you would recommend? I would love to hear about some great hotels in the area..

Sorry for the broken recoord routine, but I like to go 3 star Disney Area on Priceline. I usually get my rooms for 27 - 40 bucks. I have recieved rooms at the Hilton/Marriott/Westcoast....and my favorite (Priceline)Hyatt Regency - I upgrade to a suite everytime for a small amount.

Grand Californian is a fabulous experience, I highly recomend it, but it is very hard to justify the extra expense.

My family and I just returned from DL and we stayed at the Hilton Towers! (right near the convention center) I would highly reccomend this hotel! We requsted and got a park view room for $50/night thru priceline! Hotel is very nice and the pool area is great! We walked to the parks every day! No need for shuttle!

We always get a good deal through Priceline on their three star hotels.

We too love using Priceline for our Anaheim stay. We've been lucky twice. We got the Anaheim Marriott 2 years ago for $65 (yes, we paid too much that first time we used PL, but we learned to use www.biddingfortravel.com after that) and the Hyatt Orange last year for $42.

Both were fantastic hotels. We loved the Marriott for its proximity to DL -- walking distance. We loved the Hyatt for its spacious new kidsuites, and its proximity to Target and other restaurants. The Hyatt, being further away from DL, has a shuttle bus that was free when we were there last year in Sept. (don't know if it's still free though).

For WDW, we'd stay on-site and there are many reasons to do so IMHO. But for DL, we don't really want to spend the extra $$$ to stay at the DL resorts and don't really feel it's necessary.

Good luck planning your trip!!!

One more thing I need to add about using Priceline. There is no refund if you cancel. Before you book anything on PL, you need to be absolutely sure that you are indeed going.

Wow, I'm sure going to try priceline next time! I've used them for air fare, but never hotels. Sounds like you are all getting great deals!

I got a good deal using expedia.com on the Hyatt Hawthorn Suites. Now I've read some reviews where people complained about the small bathrooms, but we got one with a hottub and jets (and therefore a much bigger bathroom), and I can't frickin' tell you how much we loved that! A private hot tub after a day at Disneyland was like heaven.

Anyway, it was a two room suite with a view of California Adventure. It included a free buffet type breakfast (eggs, waffles, sausage, donuts, soda, cereal, bagals and other stuff). The rooms were large, and like I said we had a hot tub in our suite. We paid $55 a night. I felt like the free breakfast added a great deal of value to the deal. I don't know how many stars the place gets though! Sorry!
