Title pretty much says it all. Traveling with my dad who is diabetic, and was just curious what's good.

I am traveling in January, and am diabetic myself. I just figured I would ask for fruit or give my desert to one of the kids.

Knowing my dad, he will just eat all the desserts anyway! ;) But it'd be great to find some that would be better for him!

I tried..... looked it up using search.. how about this, calling disney dining and asking them direct which restaurants offer diabetic offerings......I bet there are some.

Le Cellier does a no sugar added citrus mousse that my diabetic hubby really loves. It's not on the menu, you have to ask for it, and it's best to ask when you order your meal, because apparently it takes a little while to make it.

Kringla Bakery in Norway has a fantastic no sugar added chocolate mousse, too.

I really like the no sugar added parfaits at ABC Commissary and Backlot Express at DHS.

I really liked the no sugar added strawberry bars at the ice cream booths around all the parks. there's usually a small sign saying they also carry the non-sugar version but if you don't see it..just ask. It's not as sweet as the sugary strawberry bars but it's really refreshing on a hot day! :)

Just a warning, just becuase it is no sugar added, doesn't mean it is good for a diabetic or anyone with sugar issues. Many of WDW no sugar added desserts are off limit to me due to extremly high carb count (I am diagnosed hypoglycemic/pre-diabetic). It will all depend on your Dad, and his particuliar situation. What is good for one is not good for all, and diabetics all react differently to sugars and or carbs. If you father has been diabetic for a while, he should be pretty well versed in how his body will react. Also like any other food subject, tastes vary.

There is a no-sugar added Lemon Custard with whipped cream and raspberries at Mama Melrose that is one of my favorite deserts at WDW :thumbsup2

Wish I could have some right now! ;)

Have a great trip pixiedust:

My Mom orders the sugar-free desserts at all TS restaurants and my advice is to call ahead or at the very least let the server know as soon as you are seated. Calling ahead won't assure you a better dessert but sometimes the chef will put something special together. Most of the restaurants have cheesecake that they thaw out and serve (we know it's frozen because it was served at varying stages of thawing). The cheesecake is okay and at some restaurants it's garnished nicely. Sometimes the chef will even come over and ask how they can accommodate you :thumbsup2

Like another poster mentioned, sugar-free is not always low carb, low cal, or low fat. If you are worried, call the restaurants directly. I'm sure they'll be happy to help.

Have a nice trip.

Diabetics are encouraged to adjust their food intake so that they can eat pretty much anything. Also at WDW there is so much walking that a diabetic can get away with more food than they otherwise would. Don't make your Dad feel bad if he chooses the eat something good.
