We have the early seating for the kids (sailing 11/20 on Magic/ 7 nights Western). What is the best night to try to get reservations at Palo (don't want the kids to miss anything fun at the regular dinner since we will take them to the buffet on the night we do Palo, see the early show and make our dinner reservations at 8:30 - 9:00 p.m. )? Better on an "at sea" day or "excursion day"? Thanks, Michele

The answer to that question really depends on what you want to do on your cruise. In my opinion, every night is a good night for Palo's as my wife and I love it.

We were just on the 9/27 shortened Magic itinerary so the activities were different than your 7 day, but we were also on a Western 7-day last Halloween.

The first step is to get your dining rotation. You'll get that when you board on your key to the world card. I'd generally suggest you be in the dinning room on formal night which is Monday night(assuming you want your kids with you for formal night dinner) unless your formal night is in the very informal Parrot Cay in which case you might consider going to Palo's on Monday. You also want to be in Animator's Palate on your first night so you can see the show there as they only do the show on the first night in AP.

An option to consider is to put your kids into the club for dinner on the night you go to Palo's, get an early ressie at Palo's and pick up the kids for the 8:30 PM late show in the Theatre - that's what we did. Dinner was a little rushed but it worked out great. Also, they usually do a matinee show of the Golden Mickey's, so that might also be a good night for Palo's by going to the Matinee. You won't feel rushed to get through Palo's.

Enjoy Palo's (and be sure to get the Chocolate Souffle. I have the receipe for it but haven't tried making it at home yet.

On both of our cruises we booked ressies for the last evening of our cruise. We found it was a nice way to spend the last evening. Both nights were Castaway Cay days, so be cautious with the amount of sun you get during the day. And don't forget to have a quick nap during the afternoon. We booked early for around 6:30pm, put the kids in the club and enjoyed a romantic quiet 2 hours, not to mention eating some of the best food on the Atlantic. We picked the kids up at 8:20pm and went down to catch the Disney Dreams show with the kids. It was a special way to end the cruise in our opinion. Hope you have a great cruise, Enjoy Palos.

Someone once posted to go on a day when you've been on an island. That way you can see the lights of the island as you leave. Sounds good to me!!

While making reservations on last week's Western, the Tuesday night table had the longest line. I think that is the best night.

You are skipping the restaurant which you would have had three nights. Also, if you have Main seating, I would recommend having Palo about the same time, so you could pick up kids to enjoy the show at 8:30.

As others have mentioned, you may want to keep your regular dining rotation for Formal and Semi-Formal night (Monday and Thursday).

On the first night, you are still exploring the ship, and may not have your suitcases by dinner.

Wednesday is Pirate night, and that just sounds too weird for Palo.

Sunday could also be good if you were not in Animator's Palate.

Friday night could also be fun, but I think there is too much else going on that night to spend the time in Palo.

But any night is a good night. Just be prepared to eat a lot.

I think parrot cay is the night to go to Palo's. Tim Larison of travelrap.com and cruisingco.com who is very educated in Disney recently posted a question of the week about the favorite Disney Wonder Restaurant. Here is the reply:

Personally Tritons (on
the Disney Wonder) is my favorite of the 3 dining rotation restaurants. I like the
atmosphere. I especially like to eat there for breakfast instead of the buffet.

This came from a trip report of his also:
Parrot Cay is the least popular of the three restaurants in the Disney
Wonder's dining rotation (Tritons, Animator's Palette, Parrot Cay). We picked
our night for Parrot Cay to eat at the adults only restaurant "Palo" instead.
Eating the opening buffet at Parrot Cay still gave us a chance to see
this tropically themed restaurant.

hope this helps.

You really have to read the menus on : http://www.dcltribute.com/menus

because I skipped Parrot Cay on my first cruise (as suggested by the cruise staff) and on my second cruise I realized that I missed a GREAT dinner. Parrot Cay was my favorite night. It's personal choice. Let the menus decide. We went to Palo when we were docked in Nassau and the lights are pretty, but you really can't see much out of the windows at night anyway.
Besides, I'm the minority that didn't LOVE Palo. It's nice to get away from the kids, but read the menu.... the pasta isn't exactly gourmet sautee dishes. IMHO I like the Olive Garden much better. But go enjoy the peace and quiet. The atmosphere and desserts are worth it. Personlly, I would give up the "chefs around the world" night.

I would not suggest Friday night.

Just returned today from the western cruise, My husband and I had dinner at Palo on Friday night at 8:30. I felt too rushed, had to pack and put out our suitcases prior to going for dinner, and also squeeze in the early show.

by the way dinner was wonderful.

We just got off the Western today,:( and we did Palo on Tues. After we had dinner on Pirate night at our regular rotation rest. Wed. , we wished that, that was the night we had chosen to miss as the menu/food was not that great! Your server will save you (if he/she is a good one) the bandanas and your menu's to take home. We missed a very good menu from the regular rotation the night we chose! It was Prime Rib night. Even our server said that Pirate night dinner was the one to be missed. Just my two cents.
