Best nail option for short term

After reading the thread about the permanent french manicure, it made me think of possibly getting my nails done for my upcoming high school reunion. I used to get acrylic nails many years ago, but I hated the way they made my real nails be so thin and brittle when I took them off. If I do this, I will probably get rid of them shortly after my reunion, so I don't want something that's going to mess up my real nails. What's the best option and how much should I expect to spend?

If your nails are back to a healthy state, I would just have a manicure done. You don't have to have acrylics to get the french manicure polish job.

Where I go, a manicure would run you $15-20, and the french manicure would be another $5.

The Kiss Everlast French nails are FANTASTIC:thumbsup2

They come in a box of 24 (12 different sizes). Pink nail glue, file and cuticle pusher are included. Basically you just pick the sizes that fit your nails and glue them on. It is so so so easy and they look fantastic. I used to get tips done at a salon and they would chip after a few days, but these don't chip at all!

The box says they last a week, but I can stretch them to 10 days usually before I take them off. The best part is, a box only costs $6! And, unless you have really funky nail sizes, you can plan it right to get two applications out of each box.

I have seen them at all the stores (CVS, Rite Aid, Target, Walmart and even my grocery store). They come in flat or curved nail types but I haven't noticed much of a difference between the two. I get the short length. They also sell press ons but those are terrible! The glue on ones are incredibly easy and look much nicer!

I guess I should have mentioned that I'm a nail biter, so my nails are pretty short right now. I don't think even with a manicure, they would look much different than they do now.

I use the same thing and they are great. Get the brush on glue for them though. If you have thin fingers get the petite size though because there aren't enough small ones in the regular boxes. DD just used them for her 8th grade graduation too. I get the short ones as well and they are not very long, which is good because I think they stay on better that way. If you only want them for one evening the longer ones will be ok.

Lots of salons do "weekender tips" - they are regular tips with just a thin layer of acrylic or gel. I've never had them done myself but I can tell you that they were very popular at the salon where I had my hair & nails done for years :goodvibes

I have been getting my nails done since 1998. I always got acrylic. A few months back, I switched to the permanent french with the gel on top. It was the best thing I have ever done.

For your case though, I'd suggest just a manicure. It's senseless to just get them for one occassion because you'd have to have them removed to avoid damaging the nail beds.

WOW, these sound great! I am like the OP. I had acrylics for many many years. I would take them off for a month and back on again. Around early 2007 after all the holidays were over...my nail tech suggest the acrylics come off and leave them off for awhile. I did just that and I will say it took a LONG time but now my real nails are so awesome, thick, healthy and I will never go back to acrylics again BUT this sounds like a GREAT option for a special event.

OP, I go 2x a month for a manicure. ::yes:: Keeps my nails in GREAT shape. I am so happy when I look down at how healthy my nails are FINALLY after years of acrylics.

Update - I bought the Kiss nails at Walmart today, and I thought I'd put a set on to try out before the reunion. Other than being waaaay too long for me, they seem fine. They only had the medium length, so I definitely need the small. Can you cut them once they are on?

I also bought the toenails, and they look great!

Well, I cut them and filed them and it's much better now. Thanks for letting me know about these. They look awesome! Much cheaper than a trip to the salon for nails that I'm not going to keep long!

Just wanted to say that I have always been a nail biter- about a month ago I got a manicure- 2 weeks later I got another one... I haven't been biting my nails at all! I don't know why- but I haven't! I need to go get another one soon- you might want to try it!

How do you keep a regualr manicure from chipping in between visits. After a few days mine are already chipping.
