No, not talking Popeye here! :lmao:

Who has the best mussels out of the below restaurants?

Captains Grille has: New England Lager-braised Mussels

Le Cellier at lunch: Sauteed Prince Edward Island Mussels - Served in a broth of coconut milk with celery, shallots, ginger, garlic, and rice wine.

Yak & Yeti lunch: Steamed Mussels - Fresh Prince Edward Isle black mussels, white wine, lemon grass, and Thai basil-scented broth

Might change a ressie to Grand Floridian: Steamed Mussels - Tomato garlic fennel broth and grilled Crostini - not a big fan of fennel - doesn't it taste like licorice?

Haven't had the top one but the bottom 3 are about equal with the edge going to GF and yes a slight licorice flavor. We eat mussels on just about every menu that has them.

Flying Fish Cafe mussels appetizer at the Boardwalk Inn... absolute heaven.. big and extremely tasty. So good, I started dipping the bread after eating all the mussels, then being afraid of filling up on bread, I had a few spoonfuls of the broth with my spoon! Picture and description below.

I bet the mussels at Yak and Yeti are good. Everything else I've had there on 2 different occasions has been wonderful. I did have the Malaysian seafood curry entree (has mussels in it).... it was so delicious! They spiced it up a bit (at my request) since I love red curry. I talked about it the whole rest of the trip. Malaysian Seafood Curry - Mahi Mahi, scallops, little neck clams, mussels, shrimp, zucchini, roma tomatoes, red curry coconut broth, and jasmine rice. A review of Yak and Yeti (link in my signature) includes a photo of the seafood currry.

I had the mussels at Le Cellier... didn't like them...small and made with pernod which gives that black licorice kind of flavor (so I learned from the Chef at LC). Mussels at California Grill were tasty but not even close to FF Cafe - should have stuck with sushi appetizers at CA Grill. The mussels at Coral Reef were good (just as good ad CA Grill). All with a little different flavor.

Flying Fish Cafe Mussels Appetizer - Chardonnay steamed Maine Coast Blue Hill Bay Mussels -- Fennel, Chilies, Pesto Crema and Grilled Sourdough.

Best mussels I've had in Disney were at Flying Fish, hands down. The last time I had them they were huge and wonderful. It's an appetizer, but you can easily make an entree out of them. Ask for a side dish of their wonderful risotto to go along with.

I actually loved the mussels at Le Cellier. I would have drank the rest of the bowl if I could have. :rotfl2:

I loved the mussels at Le Cellier when they were made with the applewood bacon in the broth. That with a salad and an icetini have had me longing to go back. But.. It looks like they've changed the way they are prepared now. So I think I may try mussels elsewhere.
Flying Fish mussels sound delicious. :)

You guys are KILLING me with how yummy Flying Fish is! :lmao:

Sadly, we cannot do that restaurant this vacation. :(

Looks like Le Cellier will be the way for me to go. Thanks!:grouphug:

We have had the Le Cellier ones and they were like ehh (not coconut fans).

Flying Fish is the best...not even sure what I would consider second since the gap is so large.

DD (24) is the mussels afficienado in our house and she would absolutely concur that Flying Fish is the best by far :goodvibes

If you are willing to venture off property check out Seasons 52. I had muscles there in January and they were great. It appears their site is down now but when it comes back up check them out.

Well just to tease you further... here's a few reflections from my Dec. 2010 visit to Flying Fish.... Seriously... as much as people like Le Cellier... it does not come anywhere, I mean anywhere (Did I say anywhere?) close to Flying Fish. I'm not one to rave about food... but Flying Fish was incredibly good. Add the boardwalk theme and the entertainers outside, the great service, a visit from the chef. Le Cellier had a decent steak but that's about it plus a long wait, dark restaurant, tiny mussels that tasted like black licorice (pernod), and cheese soup that was... well... gross.

At Flying Fish, the mussels appetizer was divine. I was like a wild animal raving about the mussels the whole time I was eating the mussels, dipping my bread in the broth and slurping it up with my spoon. The crab cake was one of the best I've ever had... and being from the Chesapeake Bay Region, we know crab cakes. The yellow fin tuna entree was absolutely incredible. And I've had fresh caught tuna. This fish was fresh! I can taste the difference. At first, I wasn't sure about the potato wrapped red snapper entree... it was in a lake of sauce and I like my fish mildly seasoned. But it was also delicious.

The next time I'm at WDW.... I'm going to Flying Fish twice...

I think I agree with the FF mussels.

That being said, the mussels are also excellent at Le Cellier, Jiko, Narcoossee's, and a few other places. In general, WDW does mussels really well!

Who has oysters in WDW? Florida is supposed to have great oysters, right? Apalachicola, FL is supposed to have some of the best? I'd love to get some really good raw oysters next trip to WDW.

I did have a very delicious oyster and brie cheese soup at Brown Derby that was interesting and delicious. Narcoosees had an oyster appetizer which was good, but not really impressive. I'd much prefer a good oyster stew, some fried oysters, or just slurp a dozen down with some hot sauce (and a few cold draft beers!).

Oyster and Brie Soup - finished with Champagne, chives, and lemon aioli (Brown Derby) -- No picture.
