Best movie endings....

When Harry Met Sally.....

As the credits were rolling DH proposed:)

Also, I gotta agree with Primal Fear and Sixth Sense  We actually rewound Primal Fear and watched it again;)

Man this is tough...ok here are a few that jump to mind...

Moulin Rouge: The entire end sequence had me holding my breath and from a production/directorial standpoint it's simply amazing.

StarWars Ep III: The awards ceremony. After going through the adrenaline rush of the Death Star sequence you feel yourself overwhelmed with pride just as our heros do. It's as if you're right there with them accepting a medal from Leah.

Mallrats: Jay and Silent Bob walking off into the sunset down the interstate with Susanne, the Orangagutang (SP?). It's so absurdly funny it leaves you chuckling to yourself for hours later. Then you see Jay and Silent Bob Stike Back and you're like..."HEY...THERE'S THE MONKEY!!!"

Shawshank Redemption - one good movie!

Eileen, you took the movie right out of my mouth!

OK - Have to agree with you about Monsters!!

How about Sling Blade?? When Billy Bob's character takes the lawn mower blade to the boyfriend of the little boy's mother?

Or the original Friday the 13th, when Jason jumps out of the water??

"Luke, I am your father"

"You had me at hello"

The end of the Notre Dame football game in "Rudy", when Rudy is carried off the field by his teammates.

To name a few.....

:D

What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? The ending of that is GREAT, so eerie and twisted. Bette Davis is WOW in that scene.

Breakfast at Tiffany's. Just so romantic and perfect :)

Likewise on Primal fear but also The Sting and The Usual Suspects.

I totally agree with "The Usual Suspects"! What an amazingly great movie.

I'd also add "The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three" - a terrific ending to a terrific movie (the original, not the TV movie)!

I'm with Robin.

The "Sixth Sense" floored me. I had no idea it was coming.

I think I jumped three feet out of my seet during Carrie too!

Maybe it's just the movie geek in me, but I knew the outcome of "The 6th Sense" half way through the film. Not that it really ruined it for me. I was entralled from beginning to end. M. Night Shamaylan really knows how to weave a take. Although "Unbreakable" is my favorite of his work.

This one's ending tied up the entire movie quite neatly. Se7en. (that's how it was written, wasn't it?)

Kevin Spacey is the ulitmate creepy character and EVERYTHING you've seen in this one is boiled down to this climax.

oldkicker, I just saw Seven for the first time last night. What an ending. It left me completely sad....

Other great endings have already been mentioned here: A Beautiful Mind (I was able to figure out the twist with the exception of the friend, but it is my field), Monsters Inc., and the Sixth Sense.

Good thread - I'll have to rent some of these I haven't seen. :D

"Presumed Innocent" is the one that popped into my mind too Bernie. . . really made that flick go from good to great. . . :) :)

Another one I can recall is the ending of "Goodfellas" when Joe Peschi get's whacked and Ray Liotta goes rat. . . both killer movies. . . :) :)

Definitely "The Sixth Sense"!
Also, "The Others" (Nicole Kidman) I had it all figured out and then they threw in that final twist as to who "the others" really were!!! Love that movie!

I have to agree with Carrie it kinda made me jump when that hand came out of the ground. But my all time FAV is Office and a Gentleman.

Another vote for "An Officer and a Gentleman"! My all time favorite movie ending.

Call me a sap, but "Sleepless in Seattle", "When Harry Met Sally" and "Dirty Dancing " always get me too. "Say Anything" when the no smoking light dings, and the screen goes black, love that one too!!!

If I go with the shocking endings, "The Sixth Sense" is great, and the original "Friday the 13th" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (never saw the entire film, but the ending was a good one).

Sixth Sense, Primal Fear and Rudy.

I had read the book Primal Fear before it was made into a movie, but the movie was awesome!

I thought Sixth Sense was awful until the end. I "figured out" the twist about 3 minutes before it happened on-screen, and in that few minutes the movie went from one of my least favorites to one of my most favorites!

Rudy is just a great, inspirational movie, and I will always stop on it while channel surfing!

Casablanca with Rick and Louis walking back into the hangar."Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship".

Ditto "Primal Fear", "Shattered" and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels."

I also have to include "Spider-Man", despite the fact that immediately after we saw it DW Lauri said she "had issues" with the ending because . That last scene, in the cemetery -- where Peter kisses Mary Jane and walks away with them "as friends", even though she's admitting that she loves him and he's always loved her but he doesn't want to subject her to any more danger, that look on her face after the kiss (and you wonder, does she know?), and that voice over where he says "I will never forget these words, "with great power comes great responsibility." This is my gift, my curse. Who am I? I'm Spider-Man" -- was perfect. Personally, I would have been disappointed if it had a happy tidy ending, because that's not Spider-Man.

Some good ones have been mentioned. The horror movie April Fools Day keeps coming to mind as well. Ok so I was all of about 10 when I saw it but it sure fooled me.
