After reading so many great/not so great remarks about the different mods
Which to choose for the end of Aug. for parents and 1 6yr old
Already know about pool problems at CBR
thinking between POFQ or CSR - but need to decide before monday
Transportation? Food? Local? Extras?

CSR - great pool but it's a convention site so expect to see "suits"... does this put you in a Disney frame of mind? does it matter?

POFQ - why not POR? When I think of POFQ, I think of adults in New Orleans not kids at Disney. We're putting up our grandkids (10, 12, 16) & families at POR in May for 3 nights. The pool there is great, theming is great, they can get the boat to DTD, there's a marina right there, the food is good, he can even pick up a pole and fish if he wants! They'll need to settle for a wait with the buses and there's no monorail to get them to the parks but, they can handle it. (My first choice was CBR but the pool is out of commission so I switched to POR.)

I compared a rental unit off property and it only paid if we were looking at more than 5 days at WDW. Then with the cost of the car rental due to staying off property, it just came to be cheaper to consider a value instead of an off-property location. That brought us to AS Mo - great theming for a kid. Yes it's like a motel 6 as far as amenities and spread out but a 6 year old just wants to swim a lot anyway. :yay: Then I upsold myself (I'm the best marketer that Disney has) to a moderate for a little more amenities for the parents! :rolleyes1 That's how I got to CBR only to learn about the pool being out of commission. So, I'm locked into POR and I'm sticking to it - Alligator Bayou section of course close to the main bldg. Since I'm buying, I did opt for Disney's Dining Plan (DDP). @ $39.90per adult/day, as long as you eat at really nice restaurants every day (on the plan of course), you'll save money. (Of course, if you wouldn't have eaten at that class of restaurant to begin with... you're only fooling yourself but there is a convenience factor of having the meals included. There's also a price to pay in wanting to get some advance dining reservations b'c the good places get booked EARLY!)

Extras, well if you buy souvenirs, factor that in. If you spend time at the resort instead of in a park each day, you may want to buy the refillable mug for $11.99. Photos will cost you ($100 pre-paid for the photopass if you're interested in that), breakfast will cost you if you use the DDp for lunch & dinner, excursions will cost you too (like fishing excursion or special safari dinner).

As long as you're going to/fro the parks, transportation will be available and free (sometimes a bit of a wait but free all the same). If you're going between resorts, you might want to consider hopping a taxi rather than taking a bus from your resort to a park to another bus to the resort you're wanting to go and then doing it all again in reverse. (I'm factoring in $12 each way for taxi's to other resorts for dining reservations.)

hope this helps. good luck in whatever you decide. :cool2:

A little more info would help everyone answer you better. What are the key factors for you in choosing a resort? Every resort has something special about it. What made you narrow it down between the two?

I've never stayed at CSR as I don't like the convention feel. There is just something about seeing name tags with "Hello my name is" floating about. We have stayed many of times at POR which is a sister resort to POFQ, and just absolutely loved it. POFQ is smaller and differently themed than POR, but shares that same great family atmosphere. The buses at POFQ are shared with POR, but I have never had a problem with Disney transportation. If you miss the bus or it's crowded, just wait, another will be along no more than 10mins later. Plus with POFQ or POR you can take a boat directly to DD, which is much better than going by bus.

For food if you stay at POFQ you can eat at either the food court or walk over to POR and enjoy Boatwrights, which is pretty good. Take the boat to DD and eat there.

Extras include things like surrey and boat rentals at POFQ and POR, great pools and a nice carriage ride. Plus the resorts are like a vacation all to themselves. :)

Allot of good advice there from heartbeeps, though I would suggest staying at Magnolia Bend in one of the mansions if staying at POR. But that's just a personal preference thing as I like the theming of the mansions better, and I've always enjoyed the extra walk from the mansions to the pool/main bldg. If you do stay at in the mansions, Acadian House is great as well as Magnolia Terrece.

We will be there 8nts w/7day hopper-
Probably will be at the water parks/parks as much as possible
was thinking that the boat ride would be a great extra
some one had mentioned the CSR and didn't know much about it
sounds like either FQ or POR would be good choice for all
any ideas for staying at the FQ room preference?

With all the recent reviews of the mods, I would have to say my current favorite is CSR. We don't see a lot of Spanish architecture here in Wisconsin, so maybe that is the reason why, but I think a lot of it is because of the lake. :)

Definitely CSR! Check out my CSR website below for pics and info. Best pool and no shared transportation!!

Depending on what you want to be close to, here are some good building choices.

Cabana 9b is close to bus stop 1 and the main building with a short walk to the Dig Site (main pool) over the wooden bridge. Most convenient location and most preferred.

Cabana 8a is close to the Dig Site (and playground) and bus stop 4 with a short walk to the main building. (Closest to the Pool)

Cabana 8b and 9a are in between the 2 above. 9a has a quiet pool and is also a smoking optional building.

Ranchos 7b has a quiet pool, is close to the Dig Site and bus stop 4 with a bit longer walk to the main building. 7b is behind cabana 8a.

Casita 1 is attached to the main building and is very close to the restaurants.

Casita 3 has great courtyard and fountain views but you will have to walk or ride the internal shuttle to get to the pool.

Casita 5 has some nice fountain and lake views and is close to the Dig Site but farther from the main building.

Make your room request as soon as you make your reservation. It’s never too early.

DEFINITELY CSR!!! It does NOT feel like a convention site unless you go to the convention area. When we were there last spring it was a Dr/nurse convention but that was it. It is very nice and our room was in the Ranchos section near one of the bus stops, which was very convenient. The Pepper Market food court was pretty good, too. Overall the resort is very nice - and this was the first time I stayed at a Mod. after stayed at GF and YC my whole life. Definitely choose CSR!

All the room locations at POFQ are great! It is MUCH smaller than any of the other mods. We stayed in building 5 last month and it was literally about 2 minutes to the lobby, food court, gift shop, boat dock, pool, and bus stop! We have also stayed at POR and like it as well but we LOVED POFQ!

Sounds like a wonderful trip!

Have stayed at all the resorts mentioned and would go with FQ ~ would request a corner room at either FQ or POR (buildings 4, 5 or 6 at FQ blg 14 or 15 at POR).

Would choose FQ as the walking distance from any of the buildings is not far and a lovely, quaint walk. Buses stop at FQ first for pick up and drop off for the parks, which is nice.

Did you see photos of the FQ pool? A 6 yr old will probably enjoy the theme and there is a hot tub if the adults would like that.

Have fun planning! :)
p.s. If I were taking my 6 yr old grandchild (have taken 4 & 6 yr olds) and wanted a moderate, would choose FQ or CBR - at CBR the main pool may be closed, but every Village has it's own quiet pool. :)

POR is my favorite moderate, POFQ is a close second. Both are beautifully landscaped w/ pretty rooms. POFQ is the smallest of all the moderates, if that is a consideration. Both have nice pools.
I don't care for CSR.
Never stayed at CBR as the theming doesn't appeal to me.

FQ is fantastic with a young child. You have the boat to DTD and also use of POR facilities.

You can walk over to rent a surrey and not have to dodge the surreys your whole stay. I've never seen anyone complain about that staying at POR, but it would drive me nuts to have to dodge surreys every morning.

You can't go wrong with FQ!

Another vote for CSR :thumbsup2
Although it is a convention hotel, that helps keep the crowds at the pools low, and the buses don't fill up. CSR only has 4 bus stops, and doesn't share with any other resort which means quick transportation to the parks.
The location we liked best was Cabanas 8a, as it was less than a minute to the pool/playground area (the pool has an snack hut that serves drink and chix tenders, etc); and there was a bus stop right behind our building. Also , took less than 5 minutes to walk to El Centro, which is the main area (check-in, gift shop, food court, etc). If you want a tranquil place to relax at after a busy day at the parks, CSR is your resort!

POFQ is my favorite moderate. I hated CBR - the only Disney resort I say that about. I haven't stayed at CSR, but I spent an afternoon there. It is beautiful, but very spread out. The themeing wasn't my first choice.
I loved the size of POFQ and the themeing. I think it is quiet and romantic.
We requested building 5 and we were close to everything - the pool, the food court and the bus stop.
Have a wonderful trip

Another vote for the CSR. In six stays, we have never had any issues with conventioneer people (only see them in the morning on their way to meetings and maybe at the outdoor bar after 8:00 at night). Kids love the pool (and the slide will be worked on during March/April so it will not interfere with your time frame), the food court offers a lot of different and good food, no shared bus service (understand it is great...we rent a car so we've never used), love the landscaping, the bike/boat rentals and the oversall "quietness" of the resort after a "loud" day at the parks.
