Is there any place to get good Mexican Food in DW?

The Cantina (Counter service) in Epcot has great fast food...we have also eaten at San Angel Inn...the food was just okay...no homemade chips and salsa (it was bagged totinos chips...the round ones...and canned salsa)...not really what I expected from a TS restaurant that was supposed to be authentic Mexican...however, the entree was alright but nothing to rave about. I will stick with the Cantina in the future to satisfy my craving for Mexican when at WDW.

Combinacion Cozumel - Grilled beef tenderloin, marinated shrimp and roasted chayote served with spicy ranchero sauce, poblano pepper mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables $26.99

I agree, it may be fine food, but not what I consider Mexican at all. Mashed Potatoes and Angel Hair Pasta?!

Here's the menu from allearsnet.com for San Angel. Every person is different and has different expectations of Mexican food. I won't eat here based on the menu alone, but I may be odd.

I happen to like San Angel Inn - I think it is very good and a must for us at WDW. There is also a quick CS at MK Peco Bill's and another CS that is seasonal "El..." someone will know what restaurant I am talking about.

I was just going to say "not if you live in a Mexico bordering state!" So I see we're on the same page Everytime I see a photo of that wet burrito I want to make some kind of snarf noise. So wrong. Right up there with flour tortilla enchiladas. But in WDW's defense, everyone has their own version vaguely based on mexican cuisine (i.e. Tex-Mex...except unlike Epcot's mexican food, tex-mex can be heretical but veeeeery good )

Okay, I'll be nice. I am impressed that they have a dish with nopalitos.

I live far, far away from Mexico, so the food at San Angel is absolutely delicious to me. I love the theming of the restaurant, it's really pretty. I recommend it highly!

And, to add to the "if you live near Mexico" train of thought, I live 15 minutes from Canada and love the food at Le Cellier just fine.

Yep far from Mexico here also and do like San Angle and Cantina. Only thing we have here is Toco Bell , 1 only like 1 or 2 things of the menue there, now then is that considered real Mexican food?
I see someome mentioned Peco's Bills but that is Hambugers and Chicken sandwiches more of a western theme I think, and do have a good fixins bar.

I like to eat here when we go down every few years. I have always enjoyed the food, but there is always a long wait for your reservation. I think people just sit and soak up the atmosphere more than other Epcot restaurants.

I'm not from Texas or California and I thought the food here was not that great too.
We just stopped here while we drink our way around the world for a Margarita.But decided to grab a bite. I didn't go there expecting the food to be straight from Mexico but I can understand why some would expect it to be since they make sure cast members are from the different countries and try to give you an authentic feel but they don't follow through with the food. It's definitely Americanized. Some like it, some don't.

We too live far from Mexico and the border states, but we totally enjoyed our meal at the San Angel Inn in October. It was the surprise of our trip. I nearly cancelled my ADR several times based on the bad reviews here, but DH and DS wanted to eat here.
I am very glad we did.

Well, shhhh, don't tell anyone, but I sometimes I get a yen for two little chain places called Taco Cabana and Taco Bueno. And for pete's sake, Taco Bueno has these little deep fried cheesecake bites that make my toes quiver. Can you see that dish popping up in a taquería? Just goes to show, even when you have access to the real thing, sometimes the "fake" Mexican food still satifies a deep, dark (salty, cheesy, transfat) craving. And anyone who tells me I can only eat authentic mexican food will have to pry a sour cream enchilada and mexican martini from my cold dead hands And here's the worst part....I even like ballpark nachos. There I've said it!

Seriously though, I don't expect Epcot's food to be authentic, but I'm disappointed that San Angel gets so many negative reviews. I hate to think someone comes out thinking they just must not like "authentic" mexican food just b/c San Angel can't seem to get it together too often. But I stand by my statement about the wet burrito...shudder.

I would just say stay away from the children's ( I think it was quesadilla?) CS meal...mine consisted of not-melted cheese and small pieces of fatty chicken. Gross! Not saying that there isn't other good food...just stay away from that!

We really enjoyed San Angel Inn. The counter service was pretty tasty too, but closer to Tex-Mex. A lot of the negative reviews you'll see on San Angel Inn are from people who go in expecting Tex-Mex and get closer to authentic Mexican. Granted, it's no where close to 100% authentic, but then again, Chefs de France isn't exactly 100% authentic either. (Or Boma for that matter.)

Anyway, the point is, for what it is, it's pretty good. Just don't expect to see what you'd get if you went south of the border. (And on the service issue gripes, we had a loverly server who made our anniversary dinner truly special.)

Born and raised in Texas and have had my fair share of Tex-Mex and authentic. San Angel is neither. At one time it was very good. They changed it over the years and now it is gross. I am not sure what you would call it, but I have had better food at Taco Bell.


Everyone has their own opinion. To the ones that like it...great. I am sure there are places that I like at WDW that others think is gross.
