I have a bad back so cleaning some items aggrevates my back. Getting down on knees & scrubbing the tub for long periods of time is one of them.

I just took a Mr Clean Magic Eraser to the ring around the fiberglass tub. OMG!!!!! The stuff that was coming off. I'm embarrassed. And I thought it was clean. Of course, it doesn't help that I don't wear my contacts or glasses in the shower so I guess I never really saw the soap buildup. Besides, its sort of matches the tub color. :rotfl:

I hope the Magic Eraser was safe & didn't scratch the fiberglass tub. Mom used to use Comet, but that was on a porcelain tub ages ago. What else can I use that will get the job done well & fast? Any way to fill tub with few inches of hot water & let something soak? But what?

And what about the shower walls?

I spray diluted bleach (1 part bleach / 3 parts water) on the shower curtain liner to keep the mildew in check. And when it gets too icky to my liking, I just replace it with another cheap one.

I have a new kitty who likes to hop in the tub & lick up water. Ick! So I'm trying to keep it clean & I'm going to have to rinse it very very well so he doesn't get ill.

Someone told me that her MIL told her to use Murphy's oil soap and a mop.
Don't know if it works but 2 women swore by it.

NOrwex has a tub and shower cleaning mitt that works like a champ. NO chemicals...I wasn't a huge believer in this type of product, but for the life of me...this thing works works works.

My grandmother always used a sponge mop that she had specifically for the tub. She couldn't bend and stoop as she got older.

She always used scrubbing bubbles.

wouldn't the best low impact cleaning method be to hire a cleaning lady once a week?;)

heck you could probably deduct it as a necessary medical expense!!:cool2:

if you are looking for an abrasive type product to clean the build up, I just use baking soda and a sponge for tub and walls. First, I use a disinfectant spray and rinse. Then I scrub with the baking soda and rinse again. That way I don't have to worry about the cats getting the chemicals when they drink water from the tub!:)

Thanks. I'll try that.

I recently stumbled onto a cleaning product called Rubbermaid Professional Plus Tub and Tile Cleaner. I got it at Walmart, but it was not in the cleaning products section of the store, but in the hardware department. Wow, this stuff works better than any bathtub cleaner I have ever used, bar none. You just spray it on, let it set for a couple of minutes, and wipe it off with a sponge. No scrubbing required. My bathtubs have never been cleaner! :thumbsup2

For really, really low impact cleaning, fill the tub with water just above the scum line and toss in generic denture cleaning tablets. This works on porcelain, not sure about fiberglass, though.

It isn't perfect, but it gets one out of the stooping position for when their backs are totally out.

I use Comet Spray and it is awesome! I spray, let it sit for about 15 minutes, then rinse. My tubs are clean! :thumbsup2

There are several companies who make spray on tub/shower cleaners which do not need to be rinsed/scrubbed/etc. You just spray down the shower/tub after your bath.

a Bzz Agent and I recently got a Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner to try out.

Let me tell you, I am SO impressed with how it works! I despise cleaning the tub, so the less I have to do, the better! It's a little machine that hangs from the showerhead, and all I do is press a button and it sprays out cleaner 360 degrees! You don't even have to do the actual spraying! It sprays for about 6 seconds, and the cleaner doesn't need to be rinsed off. It smells nice, and it's literally NO work. It sounds like you did all the "dirty work", so this Shower Cleaner will do the upkeep for you. I didn't do the scrubbing, because the directions say if you use it for 2 weeks, it will do it for you, and it was true!

I realize I sound like a commercial, but I really dig this product! I have a few $3.00 off coupons left, and I would be happy to mail them to anyone who sends me a PM.

I do not want a cleaner remaining on my walls or tub due to the fact that the cat goes in there & licks water. That can't be safe or good. :guilty:

DH is deploying. I need to elimiate as many problems that I rely on him for. Cleaning tub is one of them.

I had been using Easy-Off Bam. While it works great, if you don't get it off soon enough, it sort of turns waxy. :confused3 It also builds up on my scrubber. Or maybe its soap scum being removed & building up on my scrubber. :rotfl: Either way, it requires scrubbing. But it does work.

I'm going to try several of these suggestions. Also, I have a Rinse Ace hose we attach to the showerhead by adaptor. I have to ask DH to attach it because I just don't have the strength to push it in since its so high above my head. :confused3 I saw last night on their website, they now have one that pushes directly into the front of the showerhead. That might be easier for me. http://www.rinseace.com/

We had something like this when I was growing up since our ancient porcelain sink did not have a sprayer back in those days. I spent 6 mths in a body cast & mom would lay be on the countertop & use it to wash my hair.

I thought of ordering one to connect to tub filler. I could handle that. Even if it blows off, water is in the tub. We don't want one of the showerheads with hose permanently attached. It gets in the way & no place to hang my bottles of junk. Another thing to clean too. ;)

This sounds silly, but I read a tip before where you use baking soda & 1/2 a lemon-seeds removed (as the scrubber) to clean. I wet the tub, sprinkle on the baking soda, and scrub holding onto the outside of the lemon, then rinse in hot water. Works in sinks too. I also have a cat that is a tub licker, lol. I think he rolls around in there as much grey hair as I have to clean up.

I like the idea of the lemon!!! I hate buying, using, and throwing away sponges!! The lemon will make the bathroom smell so good. Of course, I have a feeling the citrus will keep the cats away.

One word, OP, KABOOM!!! You will love it. Makes the tub, shower walls and the glass doors (if you have them) SPARKLE!!! Can be purchased right at your supermarket!!! :thumbsup2

I love the Magic Erasers for built up scum. But seriously. . I'm sensitive to a lot of cleaners too.. . .and some cheap shampoo. . like Sauve. . . on a little bath scrubby thing does a good job. I just have a certain color. . so that the kids know the white one is for cleaning. . and I put a little of the shampoo on it and give a quick scrub down while still in the shower and it works pretty good. I use the same to clean the toilet. . .no harsh chemicals. . just a little cheap shampoo. Maybe once a month I go at it with something stronger.
