In the planning process of going to Fort Wilderness Campground in april 2010. Have a 35ft Itasca Class A. Looking for information on the best Loop for a couple of middle agers, just us this time, no kids no pets.
Are the Premium sites worth it and why? Which loops have the biggest pads etc.
First post, am new to computers and this site, any and all help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome!

Your rig should do ok on most loops it just may take a little more patience to back in the preferred.

The pads in the preferred loops are all about the same size. The same for the full hook-up sites. The premium loops have much bigger pads, no sand (conquina)"sp?" and are more open (less vegetation). The preferred sites (100-300) are closer together and consequently some are harder to back into. We had our 37' Super "C" in 300 in August but the sight we had was a little tricky getting into.

If you want to be close to the marina and Settlement trading post, Crocketts Tavern etc. you would want (preferred 100-300) or premium (400,500,700). If you want to be near the pool you need (600,800,900 1000 or 1300 premium) or 1600 full hook-up.

I've done the 500 and the 300 with my 38' coach. My main problem with the 300 loop was I had to move around to get my slides out. And then I couldn't put the awning out because of trees. No such problem in the 500 loop. Click on the word Motorcoach in my signature line to see the 300 loop site.

Would love to see pix of 300 loop but I don't know what a, "sig line is". I guess thats part of what "earning my ears is". Thanks for the info.

At the end of Brad's response he has his name and a bouncing Goofy. His name and everything below is his signture. You will see the word Motorcoach down a few rows. Click on it.

We have a preferred site reserved for our April trip.
So between loops 100 and 200 (nothing against pets in 300 but with 2 small kids we would never get to the parks since we would have to stop and ask to pet everything :rotfl: ) which would be the best choice for our 39' with slides on both sides?
We also plan on driving to the parks most of the time.
So we will have a van and a foldable tow dolly too.

If you have no pets I would avoid the 300 and 500 loops.
They are for campers with pets. They asked us, upon check in, if we had pets and we told them NO. Still we were put in the 500 loop. It was a great site with good neighbors but far too many people do NOT clean up after their dogs. I saw some let their dogs "rest" beside the trees on our site but were gone before I could "get to them". Try to avoid those loops unless you LOVE animals.

Depending on how busy the Fort is when you are staying there - at busy times pets can be on any loop.

The only time we had problems fitting into sites was when we had a 45' MH & a 40' MH. Now we have a 32' Itasca & there is practically no site in FtW we can't fit into.

Beware of 500. There are some sites that even though you can get into easily, I would NOT want them - unless you don't mind being on top of your neighbor.

With your 35' Itasca you should not have a problem with any sites - backing in or setting up. Great sized RV!:thumbsup2

I would be careful about the 100 and 200 loops. These are non-upgraded loops, along with 300, with original size lots. You will see in my above post that I had trouble with the 300 loop site and I have three slides on my coach.
