We're planning on pulling our RV to the Fort some time next year. In all of our visits to Disney World we have never stayed at the campground.

We're looking for convenience, but we still like a quiet atmosphere. Which loops are the best, and are there any loops that we may want to avoid? Are the premium campsites worth the extra cost? Any specific requests that we should consider making?

Any other advice is greatly appreciated. We love camping, and that coupled with Disney sounds awesome!!!

Thanks so much!!!!!

The camping board may be able to better respond, but our favorit was adjacent to the path that led us right to the campfire and movies. A literal 2 minute walk. Very conveneitne tto the bike barn and pool as well.

I do not recall the name of the loop I am sorry to say, but if you were looking at a map, it is to the right of the comfort station adjacent to the campfire area.

Thanks, sounds like a good area to be in. I still can't grasp how large the Fort is. We've never camped anywhere that large before, so this will be quite a new experience for us.

In the meantime I'll try posting in the camping forum.

Thanks for the tip!!!

We camp all the time at FW. Where you stay depends on what you are looking for at FW. Are you traveling with pets? Are you planning to bring bikes or rent a golf cart? We have pets so we stay in loop 300 as it is close to the dog park and a great dog walk and is about the only preferred pet loop site. Loop 500 is a premium site and also a pet loop. It is great if you are staying a long time and want room to spread out. The premium sites are good for that. The farther away from the Meadows pool or the marina you go the quieter it will be. It all depends on what your requirements are.

No, we won't be traveling with our pets, but we will have our two kids with us ages 9 and 4. At this point we're still uncertain as to whether or not we'll be bringing our golf cart from home. Although I really do hate to rent one, not cheap! We always bring our bicycles, but from what I've read we'll be exhausted if we try biking it thru the campground.

As far as noise is concerned, it's not a major issue. As frequent campers we've learned that noise can be anywhere. A friend of ours suggested the 1400 loop due to its proximity to the pool. On the other hand I like the thought of being close to the marina and petting zoo.

So, what are the major difference between the premium and preferred sites? Do you get a decent amount of extra space at the premiums? Privacy is also important. Are there any loops that have more vegetation in between each site? Let me know which loop you think would better suit our needs please!

Thanks!!!

I think the premium are preferred if I am not mistaken.

They will ask you the length of your camper when you book and will be able to guide you accordingly.

We've never gotten the golf cart though those are nice to have and then proximity becomes a matter of preference and not need.

I.e. there is golf cart parking by Hoop Dee Doo and the marina.

The campfire proximity for us was nice b/c we had little ones and as they started dropping off, it was a short walk to the camper.

We really didn't find the location all that noisy but we are fairly heavy sleepers and short of blood curdling screaming and boisterous partying--nothing bothers us.

But the camping forum is full of experts to help you out.

We love FW!

ETA: One trip, I don't recall the loop ( I need a map!) but you could definitely tell the clearing of vegetation as a result of the hurricanes of 2004. I think that particular loop lost more trees, so it was pretty open (which I kind of liked for the kids to play around---but it kind of inhibited that woodsy feel). So some loops may still feel some of that hurricane clear out. I noticed a big difference than prior 2004. But there has been several years to allow for bushes and stuff. But not enough time to replace lost trees. Still very woodsy--but some loops are less woodsy than others as a result in my own personal observations. That particular loop was a tent loop so you wouldn't have to worry to getting that loop.
