I've been reading some threads about birthday parties and wanted to share one that we had several years ago. When DD and her friend were turning 12 we decided to have a Survivor Birthday Bash. The kids were both in the same class in school and had the same friends, so no issues there. We split the kids into two, pretty equally strong teams, got two sets of bandanas and then came up with our "challenges":

1. a map of the U.S., each team had a puzzle of the United States, first team to complete it won.
2. find a key in a large box of wood shavings, run with the key to the lock on the fence at the end of the yard, unlock the lock and bring it back with you. There were three keys in the box of shavings and they could only take one at a time.
3. Word jumble - we took squares of thick paper with letters on them, the kids had to figure out the phrase that they spelled out.
4. Gross Food Eating Challenge!! The best EVER!! canned smoked oysters, eel sushi, caviar, a piece of chocolate and smoked herring in sour cream. We used a Twister spinner and changed the dial to read out the different foods. Each person had to go once. They all prayed for the chocolate except one girl who wanted the eel sushi and another that wanted the caviar. It was AWESOME! The cool thing was that after the contest they all wanted to try the different foods:confused3

What fun!! Share your best party ideas!! Bring it on!!

I don't have a best party idea to share, but I will be stealing that Survivor party at some point as my kids get older! Sure it was a blast for the kids too.

Funny - I am having a survivor party for my 10 yo DS this Saturday. We have lots of physical challenges - because they are 10 yo boys. What did you do to determine the ultimate survivor? I had t-shirts made up in two colors with the logo and "I survived DS's party" on the back.

usually I get about half the kids we invite. I got a yes from EVERYONE for this party! I think it is because it is a little unusual.

Oh, you mean it's supposed to be fun for the kids too?? :rotfl: yes, they did have fun but I think we adults had just as much fun cheering them on and laughing at their antics!!

My brother has done a couple really good, creative parties. One he did was a pirate themed party. They had these cheap humidors that the kids painted gold and then glued on jewels/coins/pearls, etc. They had a pirate's map to find treasure in the back yard. My brother had made a chest that looked super old and he actually filled it with goodies and buried it in the back yard. You could NOT tell he had dug up the ground and covered it. It was awesome!!

Ahh, forgot my puncuation. ....kids, too. :thumbsup2:rotfl:

Actually, that still sounds the same. Oh well, great party idea. ;)

My favorite party so far for my kids was this year's party for my 8 year old son - it was a Club Penguin Spy themed party, we had it at the local pool, and we had lots of spy themed party games - I bought dozens of rubber ducks at the dollar store, and told the kids that one of them was a penguin in disguise - they had to figure out which duck looked "suspicously like a penguin" and then swim to catch it (of course, they were all identical, except one had a "P" drawn on the bottom, but the kids were sure they were spotting small differences in the ducks!)

They played "spy-master says" where they had to do all sorts of outrageous things.

They played "top secret mission" were they were given a clue, then that clue lead them to another clue, which lead them to another clue, and so on - one lead them to a cell phone, and gave them a number to call, then they had to track down the ringing phone... it was huge fun, and the clues were all written in Club Penguin's secret code for spies, so they had to translate the clues, too. Cool to see a dozen 8 year olds puzzling over the clues, and so excited to figure them out.

Then they all got spy-themed loot bags. And spy name badges with Club Penguin characters on them.

It was a blast.
