One of Walt Disney World's oldest hotels is getting a new time-share addition.

Disney Vacation Club, the time-share arm of the Walt Disney Co., announced Tuesday that it is building new units at Disney's Polynesian Resort, the 42-year-old, tropically themed hotel on the Magic Kingdom monorail.

Disney did not say how many time-share units it will build at the hotel. Construction, which began this month, is expected to be completed sometime in 2015.

The Polynesian will become Disney Vacation Club's 12th property and its eighth at Disney World. The time-share business will have inventory at all three hotels along Disney World's iconic monorail, including the roughly 300-unit Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, which opened in 2009, and the roughly 150-unit Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, which is scheduled to open Oct. 23.

In addition to the time shares, Disney said it would renovate other guest areas in the Polynesian hotel, though it did not provide further details.

Awesome. Haven't stayed there but when we have eaten there, I liked it very much. Looks very nicely themed.

wow...this one really did fly under the radar...

except most everyone knew it. now, dammit...i have been "prophecizing" this for four years and wanted to get more time out of this!!!! why'd they have to move so quick!

I got less play on this no brainer than they sucked out of the "exciting" fantasyland renovations...which of course are underwhelming

Cha ching. Thats the sound of our memberships increasing in value. Whats next? Probably not long until the wild west resort by river country. Maybe they will have some club level double wides.

That a what was reported... Since the unofficial "leak" was a month ago...and now they confirmed the project... It's likely that the leaked plans are correct.

Bay lake and the grand Floridian were built exactly as "rumored"

I keep thinking about an add on, but cant bring myself to pay the current prices.
I understand the option for resale, but have concerns that Disney will at some point limit the 7 month window for resale purchases. As for now, I am reaping the benefits of having an early buy in price, but worry about losing the portions of the agreement that are considered perks. I guess I have to read my contracts...

I wouldn't think it would be likely, Dave

I'm sure they have escape clauses built all over the contract...but i think it would be more trouble than its worth on something so fundamental as that...
I would bet they honor the contract as originally written in this case.

The numbers should work out no matter how many spots or contracts they sell...because you're tied to a unit...and if it survived Saratoga...it can survive anything

To be clear...I was just saying buy old points somewhere and use them at poly...booking window is itrelevant
