Best items for quick breakfast in the room?

We're taking a group of kids in June, staying at All Star Movies. I want to have some quick things available in their rooms for them to grab for breakfast before heading out to the parks. I don't want things that have to be kept cold or heated up.

So far, I've come up with fruit, breakfast bars, muffins, and granola bars. Any other suggestions?

How about cereal? We eat that w/out milk for a snack. There are always pop tarts. Also you could take peanut butter and bread. It's really yummy with banana on top..and good for you too.

Well be taking b'fast foods to eat in our room too. The only bad things about the items that you've listed, is that they're not going to last long in your system. When I eat a b'fast bar, or even worse, a poptart, I'm always hungry again in less than two hours. Give me eggs and bacon, and I'm good to go until a late lunch.

The idea that OP had about the bread, p'nut butter and banana sounds like it would have enough protein to tide you over until lunch. You also could use the coffee maker to heat up water and bring those oatmeal cups along. Eaten with some fruit and maybe a muffin, that seems like it would work too.

Bagels are always easy. But I know when traveling I throw in those Nabisco 100 calorie snacks. I think they are pretty good, and most of the kids ate them. Peanut butter crackers, those that come six in a pack, you get a case at Costco for under 4 bucks. Another vote for boxed cerial, some come in bigger boxes/bowls now.

Those Quaker Oatmeal Squares are very filling, and we love Cinnamon Raisin bagels, plain.

And Gem, it's about time for a new picture of Paul. (He's so cute!)

My boys LOVE oatmeal, and you can use the plastic cups that they have in the room. We also do cold cereal. I don't let my boys eat sugar cereal. They get enough sugar throughout the day. So we do Cherrios or they like Go Lean. We also will buy yogurt there. They eat that stuff like ice cream! I agree with making sure that you have something besides carbs or young ones get hungry fast.

My kids love Balance bars , particularly the peanut butter flavor. They are small, but have 15g of protein so they stick with them better than a granola bar. I make sure they have lots of juice and water with it.

I like the Nutri Grain Muffin bars and granola bars. I'll usually pack some of those cereals in the cups and get a milk from the food court the night before and keep it cold on ice or I buy the shelf stable milk (Parmalat and DS likes it amazingly). I also buy the minute maid OJ boxes which are pretty good, however since DS is on meds this time around I don't think I'll pack those since the Vitamin C intereferes with them.

Entenmann's chocolate chip breakfast bars! My DS04 thinks they are cookies and are pretty good for you. There's no rule against bringing another one for the road if you get hungry again in the park before lunch. ;)

We just did breakfast bars/cereal bars, a apple juice box and a banana each day with ds.

3 years ago on our honeymoon we did do the bread and peanut butter. As long as you are not dealing with any allergic kids this may keep them full longer.

We did usually take a rice krispie bar into the parks for a midday snack if he were hungry before lunch (or bored during a line :flower: )

Apples and bananas seem to travel pretty well, as long as the bananas dont get smushed.

The cereal bars and granola bars work great as mentioned, thats what we did in May. We would fill up our mugs and breakfast was served. But be sure to carry along snacks because as someone pointed out these items dont stay with you very long, my kids were calling for crackers or dry cereal( the cups or little boxes pack easily) as a snack about the time we arrived at the parks!

Have fun

Laura

The powdered donuts work well(especially if you purchase the Little Debbie brand in a box). They are very sugary, though, so we pair them with fruit and oatmeal or cereal as an extra "filler". Cheerios, mini wheats, and Honey bunches of Oats are our cereals of choice, and we add blueberries or sliced strawberries and bananas to the cereal. We usually add peaches to our oatmeal. A week before I leave, I slice the peaches and strawberries, and freeze them in a ziploc bowl, and just add them to the cooler before we leave. I either purchase not-quite-ripe bananas before we leave, or I purchase them at Winn Dixie once we arrive. I always purchase a cantaloupe that I cut up the first day and store in a ziploc bowl in the fridge(or cooler), as well as several pounds of grapes which we use as snacks as well as breakfast food. Bagels are quick, as well as english muffins, blueberry muffins, poptarts, and toast(provided you have a toaster). I once made a breakfast yogurt cup that consisted of yogurt, fruit, and granola, but it took a while to fix 8 of those! We usually have a kitchen(we're DVC members), so I make full breakfasts most mornings(sausage/bacon, eggs, croissants/biscuits, cinnamon rolls), but I try to fix something quick if we're planning an early entry into a park. I once pre-made biscuits the night before(and stored them in ...you guessed it, a ziploc bowl!), and we added canadian bacon to them in the morning and heated them in the oven in aluminum foil for @ 5 minutes. I assume we could have heated them in the microwave, too(I hear you can use the microwave at the food courts if you want to). Sandwiches(of any kind) would be easy to do in the mornings, and the kids could eat those on the way to the parks if you're rushed. Sorry so long..I hope this helps.

Note - the bagels in Florida are yucky! I was going to get bagels but opted for croissants instead, once I saw the bagels. Snack packs of goldfish or wheat thins are good. I agree with the protein issue - you need some or you won't last. We bought a cheap cooler and filled it from the ice machine. It was perfect for a quart of milk, quart of OJ and some yogurts. And cold bottled water that wasn't $4.50!
