Best In Store Hair Color for DIY

Do not rub the dye into your scalp and do start with your roots and leave it on for the entire time plus the specified extra for gray.

I know but it will dye your scalp and nothing screams home hair job/fake hair color like color matched scalp. I am sure there are other reasons (ie skin absorption) but that is the main reason I am super careful not to get it on skin (directions also mention not coloring the scalp.) If I am worried about getting it evenly distributed I wil comb the dye through....

Gray always takes the longest to cover. Usually it will say in the directions something to the effect: for resistant gray, leave on x minutes more. I always do this as all my gray hair appears to be resistant! I used the Loreal & Clairol for years & just switched to a pro color from Sally Beauty. It is lasting longer & covering better for me.

Thank goodness my scalp did not get colored!! Geez I didn't know this. Ok I will use the comb next time. I'm going to go down to a 5N and buy garnier , loreal. If I don't get better results then I will spend the extra on john freida. I know its going to be a process finding the right color and technique! I am very thankful for all of the comments .:)

A neutral color will cover grays better than a warm or an ash. Always leave on the roots longer for resistant grays. It should only be left on the length for 5 - 10 minutes (it depends on the brand). I always use the entire bottle regardless of the length of my hair. That way I know its saturated.
