which is the best hotel to stay in sheraton safari hotel on lake buena vista the holiday inn maingate east at kissmmee. we are looking for restaurants and entertainment in walking distance.

Both are within walking distance of restaurants in areas with sidewalks, but if I were choosing I'd opt for the Sheraton Safari. I could be wrong, but it looks like a nicer hotel to me and you'd be close to the Orlando Ale House, Downtown Disney, Crossroads Shopping Center and Premium Outlets.

Sheraton Safari, Lake Buena Vista
Holiday Inn, Maingate East

You should check out Google Maps. Follow the links below (the first is the Sheraton, the second the Holiday Inn). Click on the hotel name in the left-hand pane and when the pop-up box appears, select "Street view". You can then walk up and down the street, as well as rotate through 360˚.

ETA: For some reason, the map doesn't zoom to the correct spot in the case of the Sheraton. You'll need to click on the left hand arrow until the address at the top reads 12201 S Apopka Vineland Road and then swing through 180˚ to see the hotel.

Never stayed in a hotel in Kissimmee, only villas - to be honest it's not an area I would prefer for a hotel visit, purely because it's so built up and a bit more of the 'tacky' touristy shop type places:snooty:, sorry.

We have stayed at the Sheraton Safari a number of times (although not for 4 years now) and our friends stayed there for 6 nights last August before we were all in a villa together. They loved it, the area is fantastic - there are any number of restaurants within a very easy walking distance. It is off of a main road, but there are crossings to use (just be quick, like any US crossings;)).

The hotel has a nice ambience, the staff have always been very helpful. We always had a pool view room - you get a balcony overlooking the pool, which is a great pool with a nice slide.

We stayed at the sheraton safari in 2007 and upgraded to one of the suite rooms, this is supposedly a 4 star/diamond hotel but we found it to be rather dated and run down peeling paint and generaly shabby and definately not worth what we paid, the sink leaked constantly so we had a soggy carpet most of the time and sofa was grubby and ripped, tried for a room change but no joy as fully booked!! Although the location is extremley good, so if you don't mind what the place looks like and you get a good deal go for it. You never know they may have had a refurb since we went.

Is there any reason directly why you are choosing from these 2?

I agree with Annie and must admit I personally wouldn't stay in Kissimmee if I wasn't staying in a villa. Although the location is pretty good.
Generally the hotel choice down the 192 isn't that great.
