Best Hotel in DL area?

We are coming in Dec, and trying to decide on a hotel in the area. We would love to stay at a DLR hotel, but with six of us we just can't justify the cost of 2 rooms! We are considering the Holiday Inn Express. Has anyone ever stayed there? Any other good hotels (preferably within walking distance) that can accomodate 6 for a good price?

Thanks!

I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. It's a farther walk than you'd think (about 15 min), but it's better than parking, that's for sure. It was a very nice hotel, but no continental breakfast. That could have changed since I stayed there (May 2004) but if it's important to you to have breakfast at the hotel I'd suggest calling or finding another hotel. Otherwise, I can't complain! It was nice.

Carousel, Tropicanna and Desert Inn all have suites that can accommodate your number. They are the closest of any of the Hotels...

HoJo's has the Entertainment book rate for the following nights:
December 2008:: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 21st, 22nd

So you could get two standard rooms for $59 a night each, or two deluxe rooms for $74 a night each, on those dates, provided you pick up an Entertainment book. I think they cost $25 new; and you don't need one to make the reservation. You just need to show the card at check in.

HoJo is one of the DIS boards' favorites; it's up on block on Harbor from the crosswalk, and has the nicest rooms for that rate.

The Holiday Inn Express does have the hot breakfast included and the La Quinta has suites (up to three rooms/two bathrooms) and also includes hot breakfasts. That can be a real money saver for six people! The rates look to be about the same as two Hojo rooms at the Entertainment rate, but include the breakfast. Not sure how far away they are though - both say 10-15 mins walking....

Check out this link for a map of the area

Hot breakfasts do sound nice! as opposed to just being hot (and probably sweaty as well) while one is eating their breakfast! ;) hehe
In the end, to state which property is the best one, is really a value judgement that only each individual can decide upon for themselve, it is nice when one can receive good tips, advice, and opinions, it is just that in the end, that is what it all comes down to, a value judgement.

Our family loves Residence Inn. We've stayed at the one on Harbor, near the intersection with Chapman. The main drawback, based on your post is that you cannot walk to the park. There is another RI on Clementine much closer to DLR. We've never stayed there. Some folks says it's OK to walk, other say it's a little too far. One of the things I like is the complimentary breakfast. A nice selection of hot, savory foods in addition to the cereal/danish you usually get from other hotels.

I know this won't help you now.

but 2009 Disney is planning on opening Vacation homes (DVC - Disney Vacation Club) I'm sure that Disney will also open these to non DVC members. sorta like they do with WDW rooms. you might want to look into maybe joining DVC. I have a family of 7 (Wife,Me, DD19 DS17 DD8 DD6 DD6 yep twins)

also look for A residence inn I think there's one a few miles away. or go to Marriot's website.

good luck

We stayed at and enjoyed The Park Vue Inn that is directly across the street from the main entrance. Our room was clean and had a microwave and fridge. They have family suites and best of all a continental breakfast with a really good spread (or at least it was when we were there)

Just one thing to keep in mind about the free breakfasts - check the start time. If you plan on doing early entry it's possible the breakfast won't be available by the time you need to leave. Some of the suites have small kitchenettes and you can keep breakfast fixings in your room.

Desert Inn across the street, has either a C-1 or C-2 family suite with 4Q and 2 bathrooms. (c-1 has 1 full and 1 half bath, c-2 has 2 full br)

Holiday Inn Express, La Quinta, and Residence Inn Maingate all have the hot breakfasts starting at 6:30 Mon-Fri and at 7:00 a.m. on the weekends - so I think early enought to get to Magic Mornings even (OK, you may be cutting it close if you go at peak times when it starts at 7:00 a.m.......)

i was going to say desert inn hehe i just saw its already been said but id check it out ive heard good enough reviews to stay there in oct
