Best hotel for ONE night?

Hubby and I will be visiting WDW for a day during the first week of February, and will have only ONE night to stay in the area. We haven't decided which park to visit yet, but it will likely be MK or MGM/Hollywood.

Which hotel would you recommend for one night? Is it worth the $ to stay at a monorail hotel, or better to go with a value resort or downtown Disney hotel and rely on the busses? (we had a good week-long experience at the Hilton in 2004). We can also get a car while we're there, so if it's just for one night, are we better off staying off-resort and just driving?

Thanks for your advice! :)

That's a really good question. No kids, so you won't need to hop back to your resort, just one day at a park, hmmmm. Here's what I'm thinking. If you want to get the full Disney effect and if you choose to go to MGM, then I suggest staying at BWI. You would have the luxury of taking a boat to MGM, or walking if you like. The Boardwalk is a wonderful area to stay -- has restaurants, dancing, shops, bakery, ESPN, entertainment, etc. After MGM closes, you could take a boat or walk right back to BWI and enjoy the night for a few more hours right on the boardwalk. If DH and I were going without the kids and only going to MGM or Epcot, that is where we'd stay.

The other park you mentioned was MK. If that is the park you decide on and you want the full Disney effect, then I would happily choose WL. It's a gorgeous resort, really, and my only hold-back from staying more often has simply been because we have young children and we prefer the Epcot or monorail resorts right now for the transportation conveniences with a double stroller. However, if just DH and I were going, then we'd stay at WL in a heartbeat if we were just going to MK park.

Good luck with your decision!

Spent 5 nights at the Swan (it was ok), and switched to Pop Century, worked out really well - Went to AK first thing in the AM (prior) to check in, took a tour and walked around the park till around 4, back to the resort quick nap, over to AKL for dinner at Boma always excellent and walked around the resort, back to POP by 11pm and out the door and on the road back home by 6am. For the amount of time we spent there the price was right. I would look into extra magic hours for the day your planning whether morning or night can make staying onsite worth it.

Hurry and book! I've been trying to book an additional night at ASMu for Feb. 7th and can't get a room.
