Starting to plan long-awaited vacation with our twin sons age 21. I am trying to pick a hotel with a little extra room and am even wondering is 2 value rooms might be better for us. We will not have a car so we would prefer to stay on site. We are planning a day or 2 at Universal as well.

I don't think any of the resort rooms, even DVC studios would be good with 21 year old kids. We do the studios but our kids are 12 & 14 and don't mind a pull out sofa or small pull out murphy bed under the TV. The sleeping arrangements and space aren't bad but the beds are really only meant for little kids.

Maybe a DVC one bedroom wouldn't be bad if your sons don't mind sharing a pull down. The Riviera, Saratoga Springs, (not sure if any others) have the larger pull down murphy as opposed to the pull out sofa which is awful and feel like that's for kids only. I know Art of Animation has a nice family suite but the theming is very little kid friendly. The AofA suites also have two bathrooms which is a perk.

The two hotel rooms might be a better option. Just know that if you plan to do adjoining or connecting to include your request, disney does not guarantee they can do it but they usually do meet most requests. Make sure you request what you want correctly- In the hotel world, adjoining rooms are next to each other, and connecting rooms have a door connecting the two adjoining rooms.

Most deluxe except WL & AKL have 2 queens plus a day bed sofa. My adult daughter slept on it at GF and said it was comfy.
There‘s the cabins at FW. And The Disney Springs Doubletree is all suites We came a day early before package so stayed there. The 1 bedroom is huge. We had 2 queens plus sofa bed in living room. Got a great discount on Mousesavers that included free breakfast! The Disney Springs hotels include continuous shuttles to the parks every 30 min.
WDW is discontinuing Magic Express so no matter what you’ll need airport transportation.
Moderates do have a pull down bed in 5th sleeper rooms but your boys maybe too tall for it. Some people bring blow up single mattress.
Or as you say, you could book 2 rooms at a value.

I would suggest that you look into staying at Wyndham Bonnet Creek in a 2BR villa. You'll have plenty of room to stretch out, plus a full kitchen and laundry. My DD21 loved it when we stayed there 2 years ago. Both boys will have their own bed in the 2nd bedroom and you'll enjoy the king bed in the master. Uber/Lyft is a good alternative to Disney buses. Plus, Disney is getting rid of free Magical Express at the start of the year so you'll have to pay for a ride from the airport in any case. They *do* have transportation to the parks, but I think Uber/Lyft is cheaper. Here is a thread about the resort: https://www.disboards.com/threads/the-we-loooooove-bonnet-creek-thread-part-4.3366139/

If they'll share a bed, then a DVC studio will probably be OK. My DD21 did fit on the little murphy bed at BWV that sleeps a 5th person, but she's short. I assume that your boys won't fit. If you go for a DVC studio, I would probably try for one near Epcot or SSR (near DS). We stayed at BWV last trip with my DD and she enjoyed going into Epcot to try to "drink around the world" (over multiple days on our insistence).

If they won't share a bed and Disney bus service is that important to you, then stick with Pop Century which is on the Skyliner for 2 of the parks.

I would say the Fort Wilderness Cabin fits your needs. If I were 21 I would prefer a room separate from my parents. So I think two value rooms would be best.

The last time we vacationed as a family I was 17. We got separate rooms and it was great!

My worry is space and cost, but I will pay extra for space. I do not want too much togetherness to ruin our trip. I'm thinking 2 value rooms might be best

They can't even share an apartment anymore, but each having their own place is better for all of us. I will check out Bonnet Creek, I enjoy having a nice room on vacation. I will price 2 rooms at Pop too, but one twin may not appreciate the Skyliner, he's is not a fan.

Values now start at about $160 per night for rack rate. You'll need 2 rooms which comes out to be about $360 per night with taxes and I wouldn't hold my breath for discounts. For half that you can be at Bonnet Creek which covers both your space and cost worries. Bonnet Creek is also very close to WDW, it's basically next to CBR. I rented from here when I stayed there: https://vacationstrategy.com/project/bonnet-creek/ .

It's booked up for the week after New Years. I will keep checking though.

Yeah, that's going to be a tough week since the in-person marathon is back on. The RunDisney events run from 1/6 - 1/9, so everything leading up to and including that weekend will get booked. FWIW, you actually have to call them and ask if there is availability. The list that is on the page is only for dedicated reservations in the next month or two.

Because you're going marathon week, I would go ahead and book 2 rooms at one of the All Stars now so you have it in your back pocket. Disney resorts will fill up.

Do keep checking for Disney value rooms if you are leaning to being on site. I know 2022 may be different, but after the holiday weekend the value season begins so you may find a good rack rate on a value. While you will almost always get more space for your money off WDW property, I do typically prefer to stay onsite.

If it was me I would probably do 2 POP rooms that way you get 2 complete bathrooms....1 bedroom studios don't usually have that.

We've stayed all over Disney, on and off-site, and we now prefer two value rooms so our adult kids can have their own bathroom, beds, and space. It makes the vacation so much nicer and everybody is in a good mood because they've actually slept. I found no difference in the quality of the rooms (linens, bed, etc.) when compared to our deluxe stays. Transportation is usually really good, too. For us, the values are fun, campy, and have a unique charm of their own. Pop is our favorite, but the other values are fun too.

Wow Bonnet Creek is nice....if I wanted to stay off Property i would definitely check it out.

If u are going after the Polynesian is open, and your budget can afford it, my vote would be there, if for room size alone. If you'd rather be at EPCOT resort and walking to EP and HS, then my pick would be BWI.

The family suites at All Star Music might work for you as well. They are newly refurbished with 2 bathrooms, 3 queen beds (one of which is in a closed bedroom) and a kitchen with a full size fridge and microwave. They are a bit more than 2 regular rooms but you are guaranteed to be together while having enough space. Also, they are in the preferred buildings close to the main hall and buses.
