Hi, what is the best resort for honeymooners? My fiance and I LOVE POR and in the past when we stayed at other resorts we were really disappointed. I have the Poly booked but we keep worrying that we will be disappointed. POR is so romantic and we love everything about it, BUT since it is our honeymoon we figured we would upgrade for once and see what all the deluxe resort 'hype' was all about.
ps
we feel GF is alittle too stuffy for us......any other suggestions??
Thanks!!! :earsboy:

You might consider the Boardwalk Inn or the Yacht Club. We love the Boardwalk Inn. It's pretty, romantic but, we think, not as "stuffy" as GF. They have Honeymoon Suites that, although we haven't stayed in them, look really fun -- your own entrance with front yard and mailbox, living area downstairs, king bed and jacuzzi upstairs. The Yacht Club is also great -- nice rooms and a great pool area.

The Epcot resort area is great for couples -- lots of good restaurants (there are five hotels within walking distance of each other, all with nice restaurants) and you're within walking distance of Epcot and Disney-MGM.

I think that the Polynesian is a great choice for your honeymoon! I agree with you, GF is too stuffy for me too. The Polynesian is a beautiful resort. Taking a moonlight walk around the grounds is so romantic. You can see MK right across the lagoon - it is such a magical feeling. I don't think you will be disappointed.

IMHO the Poly is a great resort for a Honeymoon. The great thing about it is that there are plenty of places to be alone and the tropical theme is very well represented. The one thing that you will notice here is that there is a VERY high degree of differing opinions regarding the Poly...While I have gotten some great advice and tips here on the DIS, I would say that your best bet is to just experience the place for yourself and form your own opinions on what you like (and that applies to food, resorts, parks, etc...).

P.S. I hope you have a great Honeymoon!!!:D

I would have to vote for the Poly as well. My fianace and I just got back from our first stay there and fell in love with it. In fact, we have been considering doing an Intimate Wedding at Sunset Pointe and staying at the Poly for our honeymoon!! Orginally we were just going to do a court house wedding (it's a second marriage for both of us) but once we got to the Poly we started to want to do a real wedding. It's a very beautiful and romantic place. Especially if you get a bottle of champagne and lay in a hammock together along the beach watching Wishes!!!

We walked over to the GF and spent some time looking around. It's very pretty but we just didn't get any good "theme" vibes the way we did at the Poly. I don't really care about what my actual hotel room lookes like as long as it's clean, so I just wouldn't be interested in paying the additional money for the Victorian "themed" rooms. It does seem to be the flagship hotel for all honeymooners though, so I can understand why people automatically think that is the place to stay on your honeymoon.

Honestly, though I think even the Value Resorts can be romantic - it's all in how you look at the whole situation!!

My wife and I loved the GF for our honeymoon. We stayed main building concierge in one of the Turret rooms. We had the best view possible! From our room, we could see Cinderella's Castle, Seven Seas Lagoon, both pools, CR, Poly, Epcot, Wedding Pavilion, etc. We were treated like royalty the whole time we were there, and my wife actually cried when we had to leave.

PS - Wear the hats and get them decorated at the Christmas store at MK. We got so many free things, perks, "Congratulations", etc.

PSS - Congratulations on getting married!!!! :jester:

We orginally booked the Poly for our honeymoon - But after all the negative reviews I read we switched to the AKL and we were NOT disappointed. We stayed there on DH's first trip to WDW in Jan of 02 and LOVED it.

We stayed in Concierge and I have a ton of photos I can share with you if you want.

They gave us a happy honeymoon cake and went out of their way to make our trip special. The AKL is a bit away from everything so we find it a bit quieter and more romantic. It has lots of quiet nooks and places to relax. If you want a nice dinner you can eat a Jiko's - we ate both at Jiko's and Boma and both restaurants gave us Congrats cards that everyone signed in various languages. Jiko also gave us a dessert (we ate on the silver plan so we already had 2 desserts) so the third made it more of a sampling.

We rented a car but honestly only used it to go to DTD and I think one other time. The buses were very prompt and showed up within 3-5 mins of arriving at the bus stop - in the parks I think we waited 10 mins TOPS ONCE for a bus usually they were pulling up when we walked up.

Overall I would say you shouldn't be dissapointed in AKL. We originally picked the Poly because I have stayed there mulitple times growing up - but I was worried that it wouldn't live up to our hopes and didn't want to chance it we KNEW we would love the AKL and it lived up to our expectations.

I think the Poly would be a great choice for a honeymoon! I've never stayed there with DH but I hope to soon.

I would also suggest AKL. DH and I were there last spring break and I really think it might be the most romantic hotel I have ever stayed in! We liked the fact that it was away from everything. It was like two vacations - busy Disneyworld and then this peaceful, exotic resort. We got a couples massage in our room and then had the Sunset Dining Package delivered to our room by room service - an entire meal set up on your balcony - including wine and dessert. We also really loved the lounge, Victoria Falls - it had a beautiful, quiet atmosphere.

Congratulations and have fun!

Thanks everyone for the info! As of now we have decided on POR instead of Poly....mainly because we will only be there for 3 nights (we will be on the Disney Magic before our WDW stay). When we stay for a week or more we will book Poly..we want to be able to take advantage of all the wonderful things Poly has to offer and enjoy it! Also, spending the quoted $324 a night for a garden view wasn't worth it...when I stay at Poly I want Castle View concierge! I am gonna start saving now! lol
Thanks Again!
Jamie

POR sounds like a wonderful choice!

My husband and I stayed at the Poly for our Honeymoon in 1987. It was our first trip to WDW and we had no idea what to expect. I didn't even know it was near the MK until we walked into our room. We arrived in the evening and as we walked in, the first thing we saw was Cinderella's Castle all lit up. My jaw just hit the floor!

There was a bottle of champagne waiting for us, and almost the moment we opened it, we started hearing this loud music from the outside. I did not know WHAT was going on. So we walked out onto the balcony and there were the water boats all lit up!

Talk about MAGICAL!!!

So yes! start saving now for a castle view! It's worth it!::yes::

Regardless of where you stay, I would definatly mention to the CM making the ressie that it is your honeymoon. They may arrange for something extra special for you!

Best of luck and may you have many years of happiness!

I agree with alot of others on the thread, the Polynesian is a GREAT!! place to enjoy your honeymoon however if you are thinking of moving your reservation, I would go with the Yacht Club.. beautiful place and you are close to the Boardwalk for evening fun and within a 5 minute walk to Epcot.

Look... no matter which resort you select, it's going to be a wonderful honeymoon!! The very best of luck...

My bride (of 18 years) and I just love the B'walk, but we spent our 10th anniversary at the GF, and you just can't beat that.

An added bonus: you see wedding couples EVERYWHERE at the GF. It's very popular, especially among Asian tourists; it's not unusual to run into brides and VLM (Very Large Mice) going to or from the wedding chapel, or heading toward a fancy schmancy reception.

But for us, the B'walk retains some of the GF snazziness, but with a little bit more casual feel. It's very pretty, airy, nostalgic.

Wherever you stay, DO be sure to let EVERYONE know it's your honeymoon. You never know what surprises might be in store!

We are getting married May 21, 2005 at the Wilderness Lodge. I like that hotel but we aren't staying there since the guests will be. I have reservations for POR, and it's always been my favorite. It's really nice and quiet.

We stayed at both the BC and Poly for our recent honeymoon and I must tell you the BC won on out on romance hands down! The Poly was nice but it was so hetic with the monorail and people people everywhere. The BC was a nice place where I felt we could truly get away :)

Hi everyone....don't make fun of me...but all of you who keep wishing us lots of luck and happiness...it keeps choking me up! I am at work reading these boards and my eyes keep filling with tears....lol!! I am such a sap.
Thank you again for all the great advice! I am already planning our next trip (2006) to the Poly..or maybe Beach Club...so many choices!
Jamie

DH and I honeymooned at POR (I guess it's now called POR FQ?) and just loved it. It's festive yet romantic and busy yet easy to find a quiet spot to relax.

We spent our 10th anniversary a few years back at Wilderness Lodge and we really liked that too. Very woodsy and relaxing if you like that sort of thing. Doesn't quite have the punch that the New Orleans theme gives POR but it's very special in it's own quiet, organic kind of way.

We'll be at AKL next week so if that seems earthshatteringly better than POR in the honeymoon vein, I'll let you know.

Congratulations! I hope all the wedding events go smoothly and that you have a peaceful and wonderful start to your married life on your honeymoon!

We're staying at AKL for our honeymoon in June...we were there last year when we got engaged down there, and it just made it more romantic...between the ambiance, the balcony on our room for breakfast, the restaurants, the bars, we couldn't have asked for more...when we told our server at Jiko that we just got engaged, she had all of the employees sign a card and write congratulations in their respective languages. We've stayed at most of the resorts, but AKL is our favorite.
