DH, DD (age 5) and myself will be spending one day in Hollywood. We also plan to hit some other area things like the tar pits.

Have any of you taken a tour of Hollywood that you really enjoyed and isn't TOO long (3 hours or less)?? I am thinking of DD here...

I'm trying to decide if we should do a tour, or just map out the places ourselves and drive around. Eeek!

I used to work at Warner Bros in the costume dept and they definately have a cool tour where you have a chance to see the stars of shows walking around and get to see amazing sets and costumes. (We would have tours come in ALL day while we were working and people often tried to steal items from the shows that were current) and if you take the VIP tour you can eat in the commissary and are guaranteed to see a tv show star. You can also book to watch a tv show filmed if it's not on hiatus or holiday. It is in Burbank but all of the studios are and it's close to Walt Disney Studios which I believe only have tours a couple times a year.

But DD might just enjoy the LACMA and tar pits and riding the trolley at The Grove - which are all within 2 miles of each other - and her parents would too.

When my niece was 4-9yrs old she visited me for a week each summer and LOVED the Getty Center in Santa Monica/Malibu right by the beach on a cliff. Then we would go down to the beach and just sit and hang out, then drive to either Malibu (Moonshadow's or Duke's) or Venice Beach (anything on Abbot kinney) and get dinner and ice cream. She is 13 now and still says those were her "dream" summers. Relaxing and full! ::yes::
