Hi all i dont post much but i read the posts regulary ,its a great place to read all my queries for my first trrip next year ,i was wandering if anyone could tell me what would be the best guide to buy so i can have a read up on things and would the 2008 guides be avaliable yet ? thanks to all

BRITS GUIDE TO ORLANDO definately. I think 2008 is due out next month (Oct).

i have now bought 3 differing 2007 guides and the only one i will be buying 2008 copy of is BRITS!!!

as above, but I also like 'The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World' new version annually.

Gives lots of info on dining options and some excellent touring plans.

Hi

Have pre-ordered 2008 Brits Guide, due to be released 30th October.

A second vote for this, The unoffical guide to WDW is so so good!

Yes totally agree have been buying the UG since my first trip in 1990, also get the edition for each year that I travel in. Bookcase is looking rather full these days :rotfl: Also like the Beyond Disney book by UG as covers Universal in the same sort of detail.

Claire ;)

I agree, my fave is the Unofficial Guide. Very comprehensive with a ton of detail!

If you have children, they might enjoy "The Guide to WDW for kids by kids" by Birnbaums. :)

Another vote for the Unofficial Guide - humour and style of comment is so irreverent (sp.?), but also very balanced.

Particularly like the cartoon of the man selling third mortgages alongside a Disney souvenir counter that has appeared in the last five/six/ten editions- harsh maybe, but also true

Oh dear! I've found the unofficial guide to be quite off-putting and fairly Disney negative!!!!! (That or it just disliked all the things I really liked!!!)

I'd agree that they don't toe the party line Kev, but on balance I find them very balanced

I wouldn't say 'negative' just honest, the Disney guides like Birnbaum's do not have any negative comments, all 'rose tinted glasses. The Unofficial guides are to the point, they say what works well and what doesn't. It tells you nice rooms and bad rooms, good rides and bad ones.

I have gone to Disney many times, so must like it, but I like an honest guide, not a rose tinted one.

My favourites are brits guide and unofficial guide. AS said earlier unofficial guide has good touring plans and another feature I like is the detailed explanation of attractions and who they are suitable for. This is really helpful for fussy kids.

Definatley the unofficial guide and also Birnbaums waltdisneyworld book.I also bought frommers as well as the brits guide but prefer the previous 2.2007 editions now on ebay:thumbsup2

I like the Passporter - because there are pages for writing your itinerary, ADR's, mini trip reports etc in addition to the usual reviews of hotels, restaurants. I don't buy a guidebook every year, because things don't change that much - some restaurant reviews are the same as they were in 2000 - you can get more up to date info from these boards, I think, but it's nice to have some tangible that you can take with you.

Another vote for both the Unofficial Guide and Brits Guide. I have just received my 2008 UG, which I am reading from cover to cover :) I will also be buying the 2008 Brits Guide as soon as it is available.

I buy every book I can get my hands on but I love The Brits Guide and Passporter :goodvibes

Another vote for The Brits Guide here. It was absolutely invaluable.

Guide books, jeezo what is this forum for :rotfl:

The right guide books are good, I've used them years ago but see if you can source them from a library or get a recent version to give you a feel.
Apologies in advance to those concerned but by the time they go to print for the next summer there is a lot can happen in between time.
Absolutely worthwhile if you're an Orlando virgin, yes, gospel no.

Then post your individual queries on here.
By their nature the guide books have to cater for the masses, get your individual questions on here.

IMHO by far the best is the Unnoficial Guide. I don't like the Brits Guide as I think there are some key pieces of information that are missing. Still a good guide but not the best by a long shot.
