Does anybody actually take a guide book into the park with them? I thought this might be kind of fun. While you are reading about it you can actually see it. Anybody have any recommendations?

For planning I'd recommend the 'Unofficial Guide to Disneyland' - it's a very a useful book with great hints and can be a fun read if waiting in tediously long lines!

I would never bring a "guide book" to the park. (It wouldn't fit into my cargo pants. :lmao:)

I would do my research first (the many tip threads & possibly by reading a book). I wouldn't even bring copies of the tip threads into the park. (but i have brought them to the hotel). I definitely could see myself bringing in (on a couple of sheets of paper):

- A collection of notes from the tip threads &/or guidebooks.
- A "plan of attack" (or a ride max ride plan) that you've already gone over while looking at a DLR map.
- a list of do not miss items (restaurants, shops, events) that might not be in your "plan of attack".

But i prefer to research ahead of time, have a morning plan & only "go with the flow" during the crowded afternoons.

:)

I second this book for planning your trip. It has touring plans in it that you may want to use on really busy days at the Parks. They say they can cut your wait time in line by up to 3 to 4 hours if you follow their touring plans. The book goes over the touring plans in detail but they have one page plans you can cut out and take with you. The book is more then just touring plans. It is info on the best and worst hotels and places to eat etc. It is very detailed.

Another fun book you can take into the park or read right before going is Little-Known Facts About Well-Known Places, Disneyland by David Hoffman. It is really easy to read and has a lot of fun facts like the average number of sun glasses lost per day during the summer at DL is 150. Another fun fact is that swans in the moat around Sleeping Beauty Castle are leased by the park and there is always one male and one female.

It has lots of fun stuff in it.
