Best Guess for Opening of Port Orleans Resorts?

we're still going back and forth on booking our December trip... really would prefer POFQ. Will be traveling with our 19 year old and the hope was to get adjoining rooms at FQ so she has her own space, but is still right next to us. I don't care for CB and CSR doesn't turn me on too much. Considering a 1 bedroom at OKW but then she's stuck with a pull out bed. Also considering renting DVC but the nonrefundable nature isn't sitting well.

Well I'm bummed but not shocked. Our trip for the 50th that was booked for POR is going to be moving to SSR. :( As I said I'm not really surprised, but still disappointed.

Just curious, did Disney call you or did you initiate the change yourself?

gosh, so sounds like it won't be open by October... that's a huge bummer.

Disney worked with the TA putting the group together. They held out hoping that POR would actually reopen, but the final call came this week.

Yeah I don't see it opening this year. One big factor I heard is the complete lack of international travelers which I was told is well over 30% of the bookings. There just isn't the demand yet.

Guess I am sticking with my OKW plans for now... the big ole bathtub is a strong selling point in the 1br villas.

I booked CB for March 2022 but will truly only want POFQ. Our family refuses to go until they open. I, on the other hand, want to be at WDW now.

I think the biggest challenge is that both PORs are just so darn big. There are already right around 4,000 rooms at currently open Moderate resorts between CBR and CSR/GDT, and they are not even using all CSR sections (not even close) and I'm going to assume CBR is nowhere close to capacity either. With POR and POFQ roughly 2,000 and 1,000 rooms, respectively - that's just a boatload of demand that needs to return before it likely makes sense for Disney to open them.

I don't think it's the amount of resort rooms for the most part. I think that POFQ and POR are more desirable to some, and people are waiting until these open up. They have a big fan base! Speaking for myself, we will wait until these resorts open up, because we don't really want to stay at the other resorts. Maybe that's part of it?

I agree, and I find FQ just so incredibly charming. I love the boat ride to DS, and how compact the resort is. If it does open, I will be switching ASAP. :flower1:

Just a note. I think a request for adjoining rooms is not always guaranteed.

I think they will reopen when there are no longer capacity limits and social distancing is a thing of the past. I'd say December 2021 at the earliest and Spring 2022 could be possible as well.

Masks and social distancing will not be gone in five years friends. It will take that long to get vaccines to everyone that wants them worldwide and for the disease to be at such a low level that businesses won't be afraid to remove restrictions. This bug is not going anywhere quickly as we have seen by the trending. My prediction is that we won't see POR or POFQ for years if ever. Look how long it took after 9/11 to to get the Early Years buildings back up as AOA. Disney may just lease it to another hotel company and call it quits. AND I WILL CRY. There are other third party hotels on Disney property so it's not that it has not happened before or will again. I hate this bug.
