We are new parents of a small puppy and we have a trip planned for the Princess Marathon. Do you think that this is a safe place to bring a new puppy that doesn't have all her shots yet? I spoke with the place and they mentioned that they use hospital grade disinfectant on the rooms and they can keep it away from other dogs. My first choice would be just have a pet sitter watch after her back home where we live but wasn't sure about safety health and cleanliness is for a new 3 month puppy in a kennel.

If it were me I would stay home until the dog is older. We also didn't take our children to Disney until they were older if that says anything.

That being said I wouldn't take a puppy to a kennel until all shots are current and I am surprised that they will accept a dog without proof of vaccinations.

From the Best Friends Pet Care website:
What do you mean by “proof of current vaccination”?
We require a document on your veterinarian’s stationery showing that your pet’s inoculations are current. You may bring a copy with you to show us a check-in, or you may ask your vet’s office to fax it to us in advance at 203-840-5266.

Requirements for Dogs: DHLPP, Rabies and Bordetella. Canine Influenza is recommended but not required. Dogs attending DayCamp must also have a clean fecal check every 6 months.
Requirements for Cats: FVRCP and Rabies

I would not take a 3 month old puppy to a pet day care. I'm actually shocked the boarding facility would take a 3 month old puppy as they would traditionally not have all their shots. I would speak with your vet and not the boarding facility.

Best Friends Pet Care is an awesome facility and I have many local friends that even use it for dogie day care but we did not let our puppy go to day care or boarding until he was 6 months old.

No matter how you slice it thought leaving a 3 month old puppy for a trip is going to be rough. They need a lot of care at that age and probably just came home even so any potty training or crate training you may have worked on is going to go right out the door during the time you area way.

I figured that would be the case. I was just curious so I called. I was surprised they allowed a new puppy.

Just a thought for you to consider. We also have a new puppy and have a May trip planned for Disney. He will be 6 months at that time. We have facilities here for training, but they also have a "bed and biscuit" where your can board the puppy in the trainers home -- not a kennel environment. Since our little guy is in their kindergarten class, he knows the trainers and we feel better knowing he's not stuck in a kennel, but with someone he knows. Do some research and I'm sure you'll find something similar in your town.

Thats a good point. We will have to discuss this. I may just stay behind We would be away for about 3 days.

Putting a 3 month old puppy into a boarding facility is asking for the puppy to come home sick. Wait until they've had all their shots, around age 6 months, to even consider boarding your puppy.

If you move forward with a Best Friends Pet Care reservation, then I strongly suggest that you book one of their villas. Yes, they are more expensive, but the care and attention is significantly better. Guests are able to tour the facility and visit the indoor boarding areas, which are akin to a puppy mill. If you are truly an animal lover, then the barks and cries will pull at your heartstrings. The villas are located in a separate hallway, which is quiet and more private.
