I've done this in the past and can't remember which worked better. If I make a reservation now I know that it will change at least once before our trip due to the fact that codes and other discounts have not been released yet.

When I have done this in the past, sometimes the CMs say that they can't transfer the deposit that they need a new one and that they will issue a refund. Usually by either speaking to a supervisor or calling back to speak to a different CM, I can get the transfer done.

Anyway, what is the simplest way to handle this situtation...cash deposit or credit card??

Whatever CM's have told you that you need a new deposit, don't know what they are doing! I can't begin to tell you how many times I have had deposits transferred, and I never had to receive a refund, and send a new deposit.

I have sent deposits in by check and by credit card, and both were just as easy to transfer. You shouldn't have any problems, unless you get a CM that doesn't know what they are doing!!!:):D:)

If you have American Express, I would definately consider using that. CRO has been able to process it over the phone for a long time (unlike MC and Visa which they just recently have been able to process). If they make a mistake it is very easy to get it taken care of.

We paid our deposit by check for our last trip, and had no problem having it transferred (many times ;)). We just called back in a day or two after requesting the transfer to make sure it had been properly applied.

Deposit transfers are no problem when you book through WDTC and your changes are also through WDTC. Neither is there any problem when you book through CRO and your changes are done through CRO.

The problem comes in when you book through, say, WDTC for a DC discount and then change to a code like CKO which has to be booked through CRO. Even thought they do the same kinds of things (booking reservations), Disney treats them as separate companies and tries to keep from co-mingling the funds.

Can some CM's circumvent the deposit refund process? Yeah, probably. If they don't, does that mean that they are not knowledgeable? Could be but most times it just means they're handling the reservation modification transaction the way they were trained to.

YMMV

I was told (so of course this is subject to the infamous CM discrepancy theory) that as long as you pay by check there is no problem transferring from WDWTC to CRO ressies, but if you pay by CC it is not possible. Now this is ONLY for switches between the two departments. I've never had a problem with cc switching if I change my ressie in the same department it was made through.

With our deposit paid by check we were able to have it transferred from a CRO reservation to a DC reservation, and back. We had no problems.
