Best food to buy at Aldi's

YES! My first Aldi trip I spent a good 10 minutes going back through the aisles looking for brown rice because I figured it was a staple that they HAD to have and I just couldn't find it. Nope, not anywhere. :sad2:

I just started shopping at Aldi's about 3 months ago, but ours DOES have brown rice.

We are getting an aldi in our area, but I am skeptical, why is their food so cheap:confused3

Because it's off-brand food. It's not expired or rejects, if that's what people think. Sometimes they do have name brands, but very few. I've seen Pringle chips there before, but they were higher priced than other places.

most of the "generics" there are name brand.

The millville cereal is General mills

the cheese is kraft

the ketchup is red gold

Thanks! I'll give them a try - when I make another trip to stock up on my evaporated milk; produce; dairy items; and some additional baking supplies..

The only kind of chips I have cared for in the past 10 years or so are the Lay's Classic.. Do they taste anything like that? If so, that would be a good savings - unless I have coupons when the major markets are running a really good sale on Lay's chips..

When I finally finish doing my deep cleaning here and get into my serious baking mode, I'm going to need lots of different kinds of fruit/berries and the prices at Aldi's just can't be beat - for the most part..:thumbsup2

I would put lays at a little more "flavorful" in just the natural state. They would definitely have more fat. One serving of lays has 15grams of fat. Lays does have baked and that was our first baked chip but they are more expensive. At CVS/Walgreens etc. you can get a bag of Lays baked for 99Cents to try. Lays baked is about 3grams of fat. Huge difference, so yes it does taste difference.

Now we eat the bbq baked from Aldi's and the fat per serving is also 3grams per serving.

I think they taste more like a real potato than Lays. Hope this helps a bit.

The stores are basic. There aren't a million choices of every item, and they are just in stacked boxes. I've found the food to be high quality, but most of it is their house brands, made by major manufacturers, but you aren't paying for all that marketing. The number of items they carry is somewhat limited, but I could do about 80-90% of my shopping there, and would if one were closer. They don't have lots of specialty departments, like a deli or an in-house bakery.

Aldi's is owned by the same parent company as Trader Joes, and I know at least one of the brands that they sell (Kirkwood Farms) is the same 'generic' brand that Costco sells. The cream puffs at Aldi's are to die for!!

Trader Joe's is owned by Aldi-Süd.
The Aldi stores in the USA are owned by Aldi-Nord.
