Best flea treatment ?

We are invaded by fleas. I had a cat, who was very old and sick. He has been gone for several weeks and there are no other pets in the house, except the hedgehog. I don't want to bomb or do something that is going to require me to scrub down the whole house afterwards, and evacuate for the day. I don't think this is necessary since we have no pets in the house. I live a few houses from the beach and there is constantly sand being brought into the house. I assume this is part of the problem. Any thoughts?

Yes, the sand is the problem. But it is still a really good idea the get rid of the fleas in your house. Even with there no longer being an animal around ( Sorry for your lose of your furbaby). The best treatment I've ever found was "Duratol" made by 3M, I bought at a Vet's office....having said that this, that was many years ago (8 yrs?), so I don't know if they still make it any more.
It was the greatest stuff: I moved into a house that was just overrun with fleas....Vaccum, Spray all over the house, repeat 4 days later if ness. ( usually not ness.)- also gets rid of other "buggies" too. The flea were all gone in my house, and my cat was very thankful, she didn't have to get someone elses fleas.

I had this problem years ago...3 cats, lived near a sand-based lake...my 1st experience with fleas. Yikes!

Unless things have changed drastically, we only had to evacuate for a few hours during the actual "bombing" (we took our cats to the vet for a flea bath during this period).

We were told to do the entire routine AGAIN two weeks later (in order to kill off any fleas that may have hatched from eggs that survived the 1st bombing).

After that, no problems. Good luck to you!
