Best Empty Travel Bottles

I have two trips planned for the spring/summer and I need to find good empty travel bottles to use for my shampoo/body wash/face soap.

I could go and buy the little travel size bottles but I'm thinking it would be more costly than purchasing the empty ones and filling them myself.

Some of them feel so cheaply made.

Anyone have ones that they like (that haven't leaked!)? Where did you get them? How much did they cost?

If you don't fill your own, Where/how do you purchase yours since coupons don't cover the travel sizes?

I just get the cheapies from the Travel Bins at Target or Wal-Mart. When I have leftover toiletries from previous hotel stays I usually just throw those in instead of refilling bottles. (I was at the Grand Californian this summer and mousekeeping gave us double toiletries each day. Score! :cool1:)

You have to use the bottls that the shampoo and stuff come in with a label on,the empty ones don't have labels

I understand about the cheaply made bottles. I have had some problems with them... What I do , if I want to use a specific product, is I empty and refill something that I have gotten at a hotel. Those bottles seem made for the stuff and they are the right size etc..

I travel with empty, non-labeled bottles as carryons all the time. I like the nalgene ones from the container store.

REI has some that look really good.

Search REI.com on "GoToob" and you'll find a variety of sizes and styles.

I tried these for a trip to Boston once. GIANT waste of money. I liked the idea of them suctioning to the wall, but they didn't stay stuck to the wall. All it took was one fall to crack the lids and make them useless. I was completely disappointed with them.

I love the travel bottles/containers that Nalgene makes... yes, the same company that makes those unbreakable water bottles. Their travel bottles definitely do not leak! I've used them for all my shampoos and soaps, and also very"liquid-y" things such as rubbing alcohol without ANY leaking!

You can buy Nalgene travel containers from Rei and many other camping/outdoor/backpacking stores. They're available individually($2 or less per container) and there is also a kit that comes with many containers/bottles in it, which is a great price.

I use the GoToobs all the time and I think they are fabulous! However, I don't use the ones with the suction cups. I just use the regular tubes and I use a small plastic container from BB&B with suction cups to corral them and allow for drainage.

I looked these up on REI and this was in their description:

"Nalgene bottles are guaranteed leakproof and break-resistant; jars are not recommended for liquid storage"
:lmao:

:confused3

The Nalgene jars have a wide top on them and they are not very deep. That is why they aren't recommended for liquids (they will spill out when you open the jar). They're good for creams and gels, rather than shampoo, etc. The bottles have a smaller top.

Thank you!

I looked into both travel sets you guys posted (gotoob and nalgene) and they both have major drawbacks- the gotoobs are $7+ a bottle and the nalgene ones I can't put shampoo in

Back to my search! :goodvibes

Yes, you can put shampoo into the Nalgene containers... just make sure you get the bottles (just not the jars!). Have a look at what i said in my post earlier post in this thread.

Another vote for the travel-size items at Target. They have a huge selection, and I pick up things like Pantene shampoo and conditioner.

As you mention, I've had bad luck with the cheaply-made travel bottles that you can buy. Even the more expensive ones tend to leak! I've never had any problems with the Pantene bottles. If you don't want to use Pantene products, you could buy their travel-size bottles, empty them, and refill them with your own products.
