Best E-Reader?

Does anyone have the large screen Kindle? And is it worth the extra money?

It is not so much as worth the money, as the needs it meets.

More screen real estate give you the ability to do some things the 6" readers don't do well. You can bump the font way up and get more lines of text. It displays PDF files better and also if you have textbook/non-fiction type of books (especially graphic intensive) they display on the large screen better.

In exchange, they are heavier and less portable.

I have a KINDLE and I love it. It was my anniversary present. Amazon has amazing customer service and a great selection of books. I have 90% of my books were free through Amazon. Love my Kindle

I just got one for my b'day and used it today for the first time. I LOVE IT!!!!

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but Amazon announced that they are adding a lending feature through a software upgrade by year-end. The parameters seem to be the same as the Nook LendMe program.

I know a lot of people get free books through Amazon, B&N, etc., but before buying a reader I would check out each site and see what's actually available for free.

I've found what I like to read isn't free. While I've been able to download some free books, most of my books have been purchased (about 20%) or borrowed from the library (about 80%). I've found book prices to be pretty consistent across the board since the publishers set the price. Most of what I've bought has been in the $2-$5 per book range, but I've still bought them.

I hope they'll soon open their format to allow library loans as well.
Then I can get DH one and we could be a mix ereader household...

I love the nook, I know it is the first generation still, but the great thing I find is that when they do a major upgrade, everyone gets it. Even if you bought the nook when it first came out. There is another upgrade coming next month that is going to be great. I like this instead of the kindle because my nook is not going to be replaced, but upgraded at no cost to the nook owner.

FYI: Kindle does this too. For example, when I received my Kindle 2 two years ago it didn't have a clock or the organization feature (which is the best thing ever). Both of those new options have appeared AUTOMATICALLY on my older Kindle.

On the other hand, we can't assume that ALL updates will be possible with an older model. For example, the Kindle 1 was larger and bulkier than my Kindle 2, and the current model is even smaller than mine. That kind of update is impossible. At some point -- probably years from now -- I'm sure I'll say, "The new hardware is worth it" and I"ll buy a new model.

And check more than once. You'll find that the classic stuff is ALWAYS available for free, but the modern stuff comes and goes rather quickly. Authors put their things up for a couple days for free, then -- after they're on the bestseller list -- they start charging. Some days I download several books, others I find nothing of interest.
