Best DVC resort for January

Advice for a DVC newbie please! The 7 month window is about to open up for January, and I'm really not sure where I want to book. We have never traveled in January - we've only traveled in the hot months, so the pool was a big factor. Any advice for the best resort for the colder weather? We have 3 young children and will be booking a 2BR.

I was actually thinking WL because of the proximity to Magic Kingdom! And they do the campfire with Chip n Dale, I've heard....Never stayed there. Only have stayed at BLT and SSR so far. Now that we've bought into DVC I'm so excited to try all the resorts...LOL I want to book everywhere at once ;-)

I had no idea that WL does a campfire with Chip and Dale. Is this new? I know they have the campfire at the Fort Wilderness.

Personally, I think any resort is good during January. You probably wouldn't be overly concerned about a pool, so you would be looking for the theme or closeness to a particular park.

Depends on when you're going. Be aware that if you're going during Marathon Weekend, you had better have your home resort booked. If it's other time, I don't think it matters except for preference of the family. Went with my adult sister and stayed at BWV, was great. With kids have stayed at BCV and BLT, also great choices for that demographic.

Thanks for the mention of Marathon Weekend. We wondered how busy it might be, so we already booked our home resort of OKW. We wanted to switch to BCV at 7 months, but it doesn't sound like there'll be availability and maybe we should just be glad we're somewhere. OKW is particularly relaxing.

We are renting points for late January, so it will mainly depend on what's available to us. As a group of 4 adults and 2 toddlers, I'm thinking the monorail or Epcot area--possibly a split stay so we can avoid buses and walk as much as possible. But I love the relaxing atmosphere of Wilderness Lodge--tough decisions. Trying to make our plans this week.

The Chip and Dale campfire is over at Fort Wilderness, not Wilderness Lodge.

If time needed includes Jan 1-3 or Jan 6-10, your choices are likely to be very limited at 7 months out, possibly only to SSR but potentially also OKW or AKV Kidani. If during the rest of the month, you will likley find a lot open except for the usually difficult to get rooms at 7 months out (AKV value and concierge, BLT standard, BWV standard and boardwalk view, VGF studios -- Poly studios are an unknown yet). Our preferences when we go in January are BWV or BLT, since location is excellent for both and pool does not usually matter. Both provide excellent access to parks and many restaurants and an additonal advantage for BLT is that you have easy boat access to Hoop Dee Doo.
