My immediate family (5), brother, and parents are planning to go early December 2022. We are interested in renting points but would like some input on the best room configuration for us. My children will be 10, 8, 8. We have never stayed at any DVC villas before. Thank you!

Do you all want to be in same rooms? It may be cheaper to get separate rooms.

We are a family of 5 as well. I have a 23 year old and 17 year old twins. We usually travel with my sister and her family (she has 11 year old twins) and my parents. My sister and I will usually share a 2BR. My parents usually get their own 1 BR. Depending on where we stay, if my oldest comes he may stay with my parents due to some of the 2BRs only sleeping 8. If he doesn't come, my twins like the rooms where they can get their own bed if possible (the resorts with a pull down couch and sleeper chair). We stayed in Kidani a couple of years ago and they had that.

It will depend on where people are comfortable sleeping. If we share a room with my parents, they will always take the king bed side which would put my family in the 2 queens and 1 kid in the living room. If we share with my sister, she usually takes the 2 queens and I take the king and my kids all end up in the living room.

If everyone wants separate rooms, you may need a 3BR which we have also done, but those are expensive. We have found it to be less points with the 2BR and the 1BR. This time, due to COVID and my parents not wanting any of us to share space together since we all live in different states, we are getting 3 studios which is even less points. ;)

A lot will depend on when you're planning to travel. DVC's busy seasons do not always align with Disney's busy seasons. The fall thru early January can be difficult to get your first choice of resort. All things being equal, I would go with the Poly - two studios - and request that they connect.

BUT

Since people can flake out and decide not to go at the last minute, I would book my own studio and have the parents & brother book their own. You don't want to pay the price to rent a 2BR or larger villa and then have only your immediate family of 5 in it. DVC rentals tend to be nonrefundable.

Depends on type of sleeping surfaces your group prefers, and willingness to share sleeping surfaces. When a DVC room "sleeps" a certain number of people, that does not mean everybody gets a real bed. And it does not mean that everybody gets to sleep alone.

I grew up in a family of 7 - 2 parents + me and 4 other siblings. We consistently stayed in the 2 bedroom dedicated at OKW since you will get 3 beds + a pull out. If people really don't want to share that sleeper sofa you could bring an inflatable mattress. The best part about OWK is the size of those living rooms and kitchens so it never felt like it was taking up a lot of room.

Saratoga Springs 2BR has the King Bed -2 queens - and the living room has a Murphy Bed and a trundle. It can sleep 9. We are doing this in the fall with 8. We get master, daughter and BF and 2 girls in the other bedroom- 1 boy on Murphy and 1 girl in the trundle or we can bring an inflatable bed for our youngest grandaughter (5) which we can put in our room if she doesn't want the trundle. I think it will work! Not super private but heck it's all about family time!

I would consider a Saratoga Springs treehouse villa. It sleeps up to 9 with 3 rooms. Room 1 has a queen bed for you, Room 2 has a queen bed for your parents, room 3 has a bunk bed for 2 of your kids and the living room has a fold out couch for your brother and a fold out chair for your 3rd child. Your kids can trade off on who is in the chair and who is in the bunk beds.

Also a BRV or BWV 2 Bedroom lock-off should work. Parents take Kingbed, Brother gets fold-out in Livingroom, Your family takes 2nd Bedroom with queen, fold-out couch and trundle bed.

Well, how much do you all like being with each other? We have taken a few 3-generation family trips and have gone with two studios or a 2-bedroom. We seem to prefer the 2-bedroom as having the full kitchen allows us to eat together, if we wish, as well as giving us a gathering place for everyone to just enjoy each other's company. This also allows less cramped quarters for anyone who does not want to go to a park every day, but would rather just hang out in the room. Studios, to me at least, feel too much like well-decorated hotel rooms, whereas the 2-bedroom feels more like a little condo. Regarding where you want to stay is another consideration. The least expensive route would probably be Old Key West and Saratoga, followed by Boulder Ridge, Copper Creek, Beach Club, Boardwalk, and Animal Kingdom. Would you want to be near enough to walk to some of the parks? Is theming of the resort important to you? Easy access to food? Whatever you choose, you will most probably have a Magical time. Enjoy being with your family at WDW.

My favorite 2 bedrooms are the ones with the extra bathroom, like at Kidani.
I'd second that. Either BLT or Kidani, because you have 3 full beds, another fold out queen in the living room, plus a single murphy-style bed under the TV in the living room (or fold out chair). And 3 bathrooms is a must for us once we are more than 5.

No trundle bed under the TV at Kidani or BLT. They both have a sleeper chair. Trundle beds are only at for now VGF, PVB, RIV, SSR, BRV, BCV and BWV. Some have them in studios some have them in 1 and 2 bedrooms and some have them in all three.

We have stayed at the 3 bedroom grand villa at Kudani and really enjoyed that but my grandchildren have all gotten older and a couple oare married. we are thinking the next time that we may get two 2 bedrooms as close to each other as possible. That ended up being less points and will give us an extra bedroom.

If the 8 of you want to stay in the same villa, then the best options are the ones with the most beds and bathrooms:
  • Bay Lake Tower - 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and separate foldout sofa & chair in the living room. (Officially sleeps 9.)
  • Kidani Village - Same as BLT with less DVC points typically required.
  • Saratoga Springs Treehouse Villa - Easiest to explain with a floorplan:

I would narrow it down to one of the resorts with 3 bathrooms (BLT or AKV) or SSR Treehouse.

I would definitely go with trying to rent a Grand Villa. Old Key West will be the best price.

Alternatively, a 2 bedroom for you and a studio for brother / parents. But that's sometimes hard to get rooms close together.
